American aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) leads ships from the Indian Navy, and the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force as a strike group in exercise Malabar 2016, a tri-lateral naval exercise to strengthen relationships between multi-national navies. Filmed in the Western Pacific on June 17, 2016.

The USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) strike groups commenced dual carrier flight operations in the Philippine Sea June 18.

CSG 3 consists of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) and guided-missile destroyers of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 21, USS Stockdale (DDG 106), USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) and USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110), and the aircraft of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9. CSG 3 began operating in the Western Pacific Feb. 4.

CSG 5 consisting of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), guided-missile cruisers USS Shiloh (CG 67) and USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) and guided-missile destroyers from Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), USS McCampbell (DDG 85), USS Benfold (DDG 65), and the aircraft of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, is forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan and routinely, patrols the Western Pacific. CSG 5 commenced its summer patrol of the Indo-Asia Pacific, June 4.

6 different VFA on 8 !
These 2 CVN are completely equiped with Super Hornets 4 on 4 VFA these are the only, the 7 others CAW have since about 1/2 years 3 on 4 VFA on Super Hornets a majority of E before 2 and one on Hornet, USMC also which provide for operations from CVN 4 VMFA with A+ and C variants.

Dual carrier operations was a routine mission back in the Cold War days when the USN deployed two carrier strikes groups permanently in the Mediterranean to hold off the Soviet Union

Now they are back at it and also now with a another powerful navy the Chinese

When China starts sending its carriers out and they both enter contested areas all these missions will come into play
