We live in an ever changing world, Aircraft Carriers are one of the keys to moving airpower where its needed now, long range tanking and forward basing are the other more complex options...
So if France for instance, decides to "play footsie" with Putin, that hurts the security of Europe as a whole, remember France cancelled the sale of those Mistral's to Russia after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but they were under a great deal of pressure... so France has a history of favorable relations with Russia??
Had Mr. Trump been President during the Ukrainian invasion, the US would have mobilized and had air assets in theatre,,, he would have made it clear that any further intrusion would be met with whatever force necessary to stop that intrusion...
So Europe is honestly much safer today, than it was two years ago, or four years ago, or six years ago. Aircraft Carrier Battle Groups continue to ensure the security of our allies, and no matter the personal feelings, we must hang together, or as Ben Franklin famously stated: or we will all hang separately!
US, UK, Spain, Italian and French aircraft carriers will remain a central piece of that equation..

Agreed, and Mr. Trump is restoring America to her more traditional moorings, he's getting Govt out of as much of our business as is possible,, those whom continue to attack Mr. Trump, Hillary, Barack, Mr. Mueller, Inspector Comey, Mr. Brennan, and the Rod Rosenstein's to name a few are the reason America as we know it was dying!
I don't appreciate his lack of manners and diplomacy, but I'm certain that he respects and intends to defend and restore America to her former principles, and that ultimately is a good thing for the whole world...
Bringing those carriers back up to full force, and getting our military back on track, rebuilding the horribly broken readiness and morale, those carriers are in many ways symbolic of our whole system..

I'm not his supporter, but in context of the discussion here I say this:
it's simply true what he said this Summer, which was most NATO member should spend much more on their defense,
it's ridiculous when it's like one % in situation when it "had to" be two %
