This all depends on politics...funding...yard time...etc.

But, when the US wants to turn them out fast they can.

World War II is a good example...but you can find them with examples of the Nimitz class as well.

Several of them were laid down and launched in three years or less.

The Stennis was laid down and launched in 2 years and eight months. And that is an over 1100,000 ton nuclear carrier!

The same people are building the Ford class...and if they US Military and leadership decided they needed them faster, particularly now that they are closing in on completing the second one's construction, they could do similar things if they had to.

...in fact, if the US absoultely had to do it, they could start up another facility to build the,...since the 50s there just hasn;t been a need or reason to do so.

I doubt that the Chinese will be building two carriers at different places either...but time will tell/
How much would building a second production yard cost? How much would training the builders cost?

Can someone do some calculations

If we were to pack out the deck of the QE keeping the landing and take off empty how much F35B would fit ?

Totally theoretical question

I can see the 2 x full columns of F35B with one of those extending all the way right past the ski jump

Elevators empty but on either side there is also space

F35B is 15.5m length

Anyone ?

Without colums normaly she can host up to 20 i think 15 here + 5 but with some Merlins in front of Islands

Full full here 8 by colums x 2 + - helos considering in more 10 or + F-35B so about 25

But the formule is very simple in general carriers host half of the total of aircrafts in the hangar and other part on the deck if they have the maximum ofc by ex
Nimitz 90 max whose 45 in hangar, Charles de Gaulle 40 whose 20

Based on those dimensions I calculate from right to left

17+23= 40 on deck

If we use the area behind aft island that's another 7 (2 on the elevator with another 5)

And 4 in between the islands (2 on the elevator with another 1 either side)

So in total over 50 x F35B on deck but let's allow some slack and cut to 45

What's the hanger dimensions ?

Maybe one day USN can cross deck and do a photo opp to pack the deck out just for fun

The deck do 16,000 m2

The hangar deck measures 155 by 33.5 metres (509 by 110 ft) with a height of 6.7 to 10 metres (22 to 33 ft), large enough to accommodate up to twenty fixed and rotary wing Aircraft

Thanks forbin good info

So say 25 in hanger and 45 on deck

In theory they can host 70 x F35B or so

That is exclusively aircraft no choppers

Obviously to utilise air opps and adhere to the safety procedures the operational deployment will carry far less maybe the number should be 36 x F35B plus choppers to give 50 aircraft in total

Based on tonnage and dimensions this should be standard outfit I do not think that would comprise sortie rates

BUT that is increasing staffing levels which increases running cost and this is about efficiency hence the low numbers

Cutting to 12 or 24 x F35B in my opinion is on the bare minimum or below minimum

36 on each carrier gives 72 between the two

That's good air cover
