I joined Jura's great pic with one from the archives to show the previous record holder as the Royal Navy's largest warship (HMS Eagle) and the new incumbent:
By 1964, the Eagle had increased from a 37,000 ton standard load as delivered in 1951 to a 55,000 standard load after 3 refits in 1964. She was decommissioned in 1972.
Here's how she looked with the angled deck and all of those refit additions in 1970:
The QE, of course, is being delivered at 65,000+ tons standard load.
