@Obi Wan Russell The US is going to provide just that capability, but will not add the jump, or widen the deck to do so. Though yur design looks great for it. They just do not want to make that much of a capitol investment to change the vesels so much when they expect it to be rlatively rare that they need it.
Now...if ther were ever, God forbid, another World War scenario lasting several years...they may wish they had...or may rush some of them through such a change. But I doubt it will come to that.
They will use the existing Wasp and America lass LHDs and LHAs just as they are to do so, and in that sea control mode, will only carrier F-35Bs, and perhaps ASW helos (or some day perhaps an ASW Osprey) and some radar assistance to put over the carrier. I hope one day that is an AEW Osprey as we have discusses in the past.
But they will launch F-35Bs in a STO manner from well down the deck at or near the aft end of the island. They will sopt them for take off around the aft end of the vessel. They will then land them in either a Vetical landing, or short landing mode like the UK is planning.
In that mode they expect to be abe to operate 16-20 F-35Bs. In fact, the America class was designed to do this most effectively, so I expect the first two, which will be the air-centric versions, witout the well deck, will be the ones that get that duty first and foremost.
If they need more, they can do the same with the other well deck America or Wasp class...just less hangar space.
