The flight deck is a dangerous place. You have to on your toes with your head on a swivel at all times. You need to watch out for yourself and your shipmates. And remember your training.

He may be but I don't know. many a man has been chewed up by aircraft intakes on CVs. In VS -33 we had a kid sucked into an S-3 Viking. Nasty stuff. He's was killed instantly.

The filght deck is no place to for untrained personnel.

It's DANGEROUS!

Oh no here we go again!

The Honorable Janet Napolitano Governor of Arizona has proposed to name CVN-79 the USS Arizona CVN-79. Sey What? How about USS Enterprise CVN-79? The Big E is scheduled to be de-commed in 2013-15 time frame.

Read about it here..

That will - or probably should - again start a discussion on how to name CVNs in the future.

States were originally used to name battleships, if I'm correct, wich now no longer exist. This tradition has been taken over by subs, although the modern battleship is perhaps the aircraft carrier.
While US carries were originally named after battles it seems, starting in the late 60s they were only named after presidents, or few very important military persons. I assume it'll be difficult to get out of that habbit again, as pretty much everybody has probably a former pres he/she wants to see as the namesake of a carrier.
Should however the next carrier be named Arizona, I'm pretty sure every other state also wants to have a carrier.
Wich way of naming carriers would you prefer, popeye? I mean not just Enterprise for the next one, but generally for others, too.

An old subject that was discussed some time ago but I will go for it.

Personally I perfer "Traditional" names for USN CVNs. Such as Coral Sea, Lexington , Enterprise, Hornet or perhaps Fallugah.

Prior to CVA-67 being named John F Kennedy only a handful of carriers were named for men. Since the naming of CVA-67 political gamemenship, in my opinion, has been used to name USN carriers.

Here's some name the USN could use other than politicians.

Midway
Yankee Station
Inchon
Concord
Savo Island
Okinawa
Wasp
Ranger
Saratoga
Oriskany
Siapan
Constellation

I believe these "traditional" names are currently used for LHDs, such as Wasp, Essex, Iwo Jima, America etc.

I agree with you there Popeye, the above names are far better. Also considering boats were always referred to in the female gender, why give them male names.;)
