Hollande is considering to lift sanctions against Russia. So, i reckon the ships will be delivered at the end.

Link?

Of course they have said all along that if Russians meet the French requirement visa vie the Ukraine they would consider it...but is there any recent news...like since the sailors were sent home...indicating anything change, or anything new about that?

A little over a week ago Jean-Jacques Bourdin stated that the Russians had to realize that France “may never deliver the ships.”

Beyond that...those are some nice pics. Some of them look to be the 2nd vessel, the Sevastopol, which was launched November 21st.

Mistral Class is actually a beauty of a LHD really nice ship and I like it it's crew is so small for such a large ship

However JMSDF has the best LHD I love the camo and the design of JMSDF

According to Marine Forum:
18 December

RUSSIA

Baltic Fleet training ship SMOLNIY left St. Nazaire (France), returning 400 crew members destined for French-built MISTRAL class helicopter carriers to Russia “for a two-month vacation”.
(rmks: SMOLNIY had been used in St. Nazaire as floating barracks for them)
But I think Russia will be content with $4b or so compensation.

Hollande is the only western leader who went to Moscow and tried to re-establish a better relationship with Kremlin since they all came back from Melbourne earlier. But, i doubt his attempt would ease any tension between EU/US and Russia. Obama has already signed new sanctions bill and this will put the Russian economy in even deeper recession.

Thanks.

Well he raises the "possibility" of lifting sanctions if Russia puts forth certain "gestures."

Although the press is spinning this as some kind of break,...in essence, that has been the position all along.

We will just have to wait and see.

Seriously?? France is asking Russian sailors to leave?? Wow France really stood up there look at them 

Well let's see how this plays out and more importantly if they could get another buyer

Hey maybe they can transfer to Ukraine and they can station them in Odessa 

But on a serious note Russia is going to be annoyed and really annoyed, but I can tell you this for Putin Crimea is like a holy land he will pay any price to have it and I mean any price even if it means war and collapse of Russia

You have nailed Mr. Putin's real motivation here Asif, and well done, I can only imagine the Chaos this statement would cause our lad's on the Ukraine thread, but there is 0 doubt that Mr. Putin orchestrated this whole bizarre mess, so that he might reclaim the "Holy Land"! IMHO the most important piece of the former Soviet Republic??? Well said
