Gotta comment on that second video.. see those red shirts they are wearing? Back in "da' day" I wore a red shirt with big black letters.. Over the years it stated the various divisions I was assigned to.

AM DIV....Air Missile Division USS John F Kennedy (CVA 67)
G DIV HGR DK....G Division Hangar Deck Crew USS John F Kennedy (CVA 67)
GM Division.....Guided Missile Division USS Midway (CVA 41)
GM FLT DK....Guided Missile Division Flight Deck crew USS Midway (CVA 41)
GM DIV FLT DK....Guided Missile Division Flight Deck crew USS Midway (CVA 41)
VS-33 ORD....VS-33 Ordnance USS America (CV 66)

Yep..

Now the shipmates picture in the second video work bomb assembly. which is now located in the old 4th deck
"Special Weapons" magazines. Before the USN nuclear delivery mission was removed from Carriers bombs were built on the forward or aft mess decks.. a real in convenience.. but it manged to work some how.

Now back in the day the shipmates that worked Bomb Assembly wore red shirt emblazed with;

G DIV
Bomb ASSY

No foolin'...

Yesterday a crash and salvage crane affectionately called the "Tilley" was loaded on to the deck of USS America ahead of the ships commissioning

Tilley is not a new name in case anyone did not know. All of these cranes are called Tilley.

I first heard the name Tilley used for the mobile deck crane in the film 'The Bridges at Toko-Ri' set during the Korean War. Great movie BTW, very authentic in it's portrayal of Naval Aviation in the early postwar era. first generation jets flying from wooden decks with axial layouts and hydraulic catapults. And an ending that is so un-Hollywood as well.

Operation Valiant Shield in the Pacific Ocean in 2014. Two US Navy carriers in a combined CSG operating with US Air Force and US Marines in Joint Operations. All American operation. No allies present in these exercises.

The fourth deck is where the first layer of ordnance magazines and all sorts of store rooms are located. Magazines and storerooms etc continue down to the seventh deck.

It's quite amazing actually. By the way the second deck is the last deck you can move freely from aft to forward on the ship.

The third deck is almost entirely berthing areas.

I suppose that's very recent:

Aircraft # 62 and # 76 were indeed with the Kuznetsov-group this winter in the Med.
