This is still from last year in Russia but i don't think we have seen this here before a SU-33 doing touch and go's on the Vikramaditya.
Actually we have...both videos and pictures.

But that's okay, they are several (perhaps many) pages back, and it does not hurt to see them again once they are truly several pages back.

The Indian Prime Minister, Modi, visited the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya today off of Goa in India. There are quite a few pics of it on the Indian Military News thread, but I thought these three should be here. I really like the 1st one a lot.

Yes, after years of hearing you tell us the Indians would be up to speed quickly when they received the Vik, they are making you look good Jeffie, good call, and good for them. The Mig seems to be a nice match with the Vik, but I much prefer the J-15 of the Liaoning..

Here is some more video's from the Vikramaditya. Well, the Indians are definitely moving faster then China on their aircraft carrier program as we see them doing night flying and in bad weather or at least on a wet flight deck. But i must say that i'm disapointed by the Modi visit to the Vikramaditya as i expected a deck full of Fulcrum's and a tour of the Vikramaditya for the PM with the media at foot. PM Modi may have gotten the tour but if so the media wasn't there to film it. The problem is that we haven't seen more than 3 Fulcrum's on the Vikramaditya it could be that the rest are in the hangar deck. I expected to see all 10 Fulcrum's on the flight deck for PM Modi's visit. Instead the flight deck was more or less empty. And we haven't seen any air ops from the Indians either except a few guys doing what looks like a FOD walk. The Indian deck crew seems to be wearing the same light outfit as we have seen on the Viraat this maybe due to the hot weather in the subcontinent. And no safety helmets either but then again there was no air ops on the flight deck either.

I feel the same...but we may yet see such videos. Perhaps they want to review them and ensure there is no sensitive info on them or something from their perspective. I hoped for the same thing.

Interesting to see the two Talwar FFGs. They looked good there. That is basically the Indian version of the Type 054A.

Both carriers were present during this event...so I expect that there were probably other escorts as well. Probably one or two of their newer Shivalik FFGs and one or two Delhis as well. Will be neat one day soon to see the Kolkata, which was will be commissioned this month, along with the carrier.

Navy Commissions First Advanced Light Helicopter Squadron

The first ALH (Dhruv) Squadron was commissioned at Kochi today by Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Western Naval Command. Dhruv is the first indigenously designed and manufactured helicopter at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and with its multi role capabilities has proven her mettle in all the three services of the Armed Forces, Indian Coast Guard , BSF and in the inventory of foreign countries. The squadron would have the name Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 322. Addressing the commissioning ceremony parade, Vice Admiral Sinha said that in the Navy, Dhruv helicopters has transformed into an advanced search and rescue (SAR) helicopter also used for missions like heliborne operations, and armed patrol with night vision devices. Such machines in the inventory have become imperative for the Navy given the scenario of low intensity maritime operations (LIMO) and coastal security construct said the Admiral. Looking ahead, Vice Admiral Sinha said that with the commissioning of Vikramaditya, Navy’s reach and ability to respond in real time to developing situations in our area of responsibility would see a quantum jump. Aerial assets like UAVs, Mig 29 K fighters, P 8 I and Dhruv have added punch to our quiver he added.

Vice Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command under whose administrative control INAS 322 would function, in his address said that, the versatile aircraft would soon be cleared for night SAR role, one of the few helicopters in the world to have that capability over sea. He also expressed satisfaction that the ALH would beef up the coast security architecture. Earlier, Smt Mona Sinha named the squadron as INAS 322 and unveiled the commissioning plaque. Commander Ravi Sivasankar, the first Commanding Officer of the Squadron recited the invocation and read out the commissioning warrant. The squadron will call themselves “Guardians” with the credo “Search Fearlessly, Rescue Valiantly” signifying their primary role of SAR. The commissioning ceremony was held at INS Garuda, the Naval Air Station and mother base of INAS 322.

When I say that they are basically the Indian version of the Type 054A, I do not mean that literally. They are certainly not based on the same hull.

The meaning is that they are the Indian's largest class of modern FFGs and they perform a similar role.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

No MiG show on INS Vikramaditya, PMO asks whyThe Prime Minister’s Office is likely to ask the Navy why the MiG-29K fighter aircraft could not operate from the deck of INS Vikramaditya during PM Narendra Modi’s visit on Saturday, a senior government official told HT.

The Navy had to abort plans to showcase take-off and landing of the fighters on the Russian-made aircraft carrier due to turbulent sea conditions.

The swell was 3.5-metres high due to a cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea and the fo’c’sle (forward part of a ship) of warships accompanying the carrier could be seen bobbing up and down several feet, a senior Navy officer said. Authorising MiG-29K manoeuvres in the prevailing conditions would have amounted to violation of standard operating procedures, he said.

The PMO on Saturday had said Modi witnessed a “three-hour long breathtaking display of naval capabilities” onboard the 44,500-tonne warship amid heavy rain. The government official said the PMO wanted to know the exact nature of difficulty faced by the navy in operating the ship-borne fighters from the deck.

The PMO was also not too happy with “pudgy and rotund” personnel, including some officers, onboard, he added.

The Navy officer said some of the personnel needed to emulate Navy chief Admiral Robin Dhowan, who is fitter than officers half his age. Modi and Dhowan had appeared to hit it off on the warship, with the navy chief explaining every manoeuvre to the PM.

Modi witnessed MiG-29K fighters performing two overshoots (touch-and-go missions) on the flight deck. Western Fleet commander Rear Admiral Anil Chawla was standing on the warship’s bridge (the part of a vessel from where its movement is controlled) and personally overseeing every manoeuvre.

Navy pilots have carried out more than 100 take-offs and an equal number of landings on the $2.33-billion carrier in recent months.

The Navy could have overcome the sea conditions by diverting the course of the warship.

But it had no window to do so as the PM was on a tight schedule, said another senior officer.

“We did our best in the available time and sea conditions. Moreover, safety cannot be compromised when the PM is onboard,” he stressed.

The officer added that the navy would have unquestionably pushed the envelope had the carrier been on an operational deployment, but safety couldn’t be overlooked during a display for the PM. There was a possibility of launching fighters from the carrier, but recovering them with arrestor wires would have been highly risky due to the sea conditions.
