Global testing company Exova has signed a new ten-year framework agreement with Frisa, a global leader in the manufacture of rolled rings supplying the Aerospace, Power Generation, Industrial Machinery, Construction & Mining, Wind Power and Oil & Gas markets.
The £28m contract, which extends a long-standing relationship between the two companies, will see Exova conduct a range of aerospace testing services, including mechanical, metallurgical, chemical analysis and non-destructive testing (NDT).
In order to deliver the full scope of Frisa’s requirements, Exova will invest circa £1.6m over the initial few years of the agreement, ensuring both competence and capacity matches Frisa’s ambitious growth plans.
Paul Barry, group managing director, Industries, at Exova, said: “We are delighted to sign this long term agreement to provide technically demanding services to one of our key clients, while providing local support and expertise all under one roof. Our relationship with Frisa, built over many years working with them in Mexico, brings real knowledge and understanding of their specific needs along with the accreditations and approvals required to service their testing needs.
“This contract further complements our position as the global leader in aerospace materials testing and we look forward to supporting Frisa during this next phase of their expansion.”
Eduardo Garza TJ, chief executive officer at Frisa, said: “We are extremely pleased to extend our relationship with Exova. They have provided excellent support to us over the last decade and we trust them to do the same over the next ten years. The aerospace company Spirit AeroSystems, originally from Wichita, United States, has Querétaro in sight to establish an operational plant for the production of the Dreamliner and the fuselage of the 737.
During the beginning of the US delegation's visit to Querétaro, Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell said that his country and Mexico must continue to work together to become leaders, strengthen and gain more commercial ties that benefit both sides of the border .
He said that in the commercial delegation are directors of the firm Spirit AeroSystems "who are already looking to build a plant here, have come to Querétaro and that's why we have two people from the company."
According to the mayor, the firm is responsible for the production of the fuselage of the Boeing 737 and the aircraft known as Dreamliner.
"They want to introduce manufacturing here that can complement what we produce in Wichita. They are already solving it and could be made concrete this year. "
For his part, the representative of the Kansas Department of Commerce, Victor Camino, confirmed that the firm has opted for the entity to be an aerospace hub and "it is important to maintain the cluster of this industry, that is why Querétaro is a city mother".
The US official commented that the company Bombardier also has an expansion of its plant in the entity and another four firms make up the Wichita business delegation that is studying the possibility of investing its capital in Querétaro.
Advantage
The secretary of Sustainable Development, Marco del Prete Tercero, pointed out to the American delegation that Querétaro is the main destination for aeronautical investment in Mexico and fourth in the world.
He said that 35% of the state budget is invested in education and has made it possible to train the human resources required by the sector and the companies that decide to settle.
"In ten years the Aeronautical University in Querétaro has graduated 5 thousand technicians, engineers, masters in the aeronautics and aerospace industry and that gives us competitiveness ... government, industry and academia have found a good way to work in the triple propeller And keep the industrial sector growing, "he said.
More than 60 universities in the state, five industrial clusters and third place in number of researchers before the National System of Researchers, demonstrate that in addition to manufacturing, innovation and technology are the key to local industrial strength, said del Prete
The Embraer KC-390 freighter visited Argentina for the first time (text in Spanish)

The KC-390 transport aircraft, designed by the Brazilian aeronautics company Embraer and in which the Argentine Aircraft Factory (FAdeA) participates as a component supplier partner, visited this week for the first time our country during a flight test tour in which Conducted tests at the Rio Gallegos airbase.
With a Brazilian crew, one of the prototypes of the KC-390 began its trip last week in the Chilean town of Punta Arenas and visited the Argentine Patagonia to carry out tests of flight with crossed winds; Is expected to return to Brazil tomorrow.
The head of the KC-390 project at FAdeA, Jorge Castagneris, told Télam that "the factory has participated in the development of this aircraft since it was invited by Embraer in July 2010. This challenge required investments of more than 30 million dollars in Plant of Córdoba and also certify the factory and technicians in the most modern standards of the aeronautical market. All this is also a positive balance that leaves us qualified to become suppliers of the international industry.
Regarding the activity of one of the prototypes of the KC-390 in Patagonia, FAdeA's director said that "the airplane must prove by tests its operational capabilities in different flight conditions in order to receive Certification by the Aeronautical Authority for The operational conditions defined in the design requirements of the same.
The winds of Punta Arenas and Río Gallegos allow to study the maneuvers of takeoff and landing with crossed wind in great variety of conditions ".
Castagneris argued that "in the KC-390 FAdeA project is integrated through the manufacture of the cargo door, tail cone, front landing gear doors, electronic rack, wing spoilers and fairings of the Flaps, we are suppliers of 1,100 kilos of the total weight of the airplane. "
"FAAA in 2010 still used the production standards it had incorporated in the 1980s for the IA-63 Pampa training plane, this project required qualifying and certifying the factory and personnel in state-of-the-art technologies," he said.
In this sense, the director stressed that "the qualification of all processes for the production of sheet metal parts, thermal and surface treatment processes, high-speed numerical control, painting, composite materials, armaments and non-destructive tests among The main processes involved including the software needed to support production. This is valuable because all the production of the Pampa or any other product of FAdeA will now be able to use them.Computerized controls were incorporated for all those processes that require permanent control to not Losing parts through out-of-control processes, improving quality and lowering costs. "
Castagneris said that "the new compound plant has more than 700 square meters and can meet the requirements of any world-class aeronautics company, it is also important to highlight the technical level acquired by our personnel which has allowed to deliver products of very high quality".
"Being part of a project like the KC-390 is an opportunity to demonstrate capabilities and opens the door to the possibility of making FAdeA a provider of Embraer's aerial and executive projects, or Boeing or Airbus," he said.
The director stressed that "for Embraer, Fadea is an ideal partner with a complete line of processes for the production of airports only a few days by truck.
