About rockets hitting Haifa

A satori like observation has just occurred to me.

One of the founders of Israel Vladimir Jabotinsky said that they needed
an 'iron wall' in order to carry out their colonization project in Palestine

Thus we conclude that we cannot promise anything to the Arabs of the Land of Israel or the Arab countries. Their voluntary agreement is out of the question. Hence those who hold that an agreement with the natives is an essential condition for Zionism can now say “no” and depart from Zionism. Zionist colonization, even the most restricted, must either be terminated or carried out in defiance of the will of the native population. This colonization can, therefore, continue and develop only under the protection of a force independent of the local population – an iron wall which the native population cannot break through. This is, in toto, our policy towards the Arabs. To formulate it any other way would only be hypocrisy.

Not only must this be so, it is so whether we admit it or not. What does the Balfour Declaration and the Mandate mean for us? It is the fact that a disinterested power committed itself to create such security conditions that the local population would be deterred from interfering with our efforts.

All of us, without exception, are constantly demanding that this power strictly fulfill its obligations. In this sense, there are no meaningful differences between our “militarists” and our “vegetarians.” One prefers an iron wall of Jewish bayonets, the other proposes an iron wall of British bayonets, the third proposes an agreement with Baghdad, and appears to be satisfied with Baghdad’s bayonets – a strange and somewhat risky taste’ but we all applaud, day and night, the iron wall. We would destroy our cause if we proclaimed the necessity of an agreement, and fill the minds of the Mandatory with the belief that we do not need an iron wall, but rather endless talks. Such a proclamation can only harm us. Therefore it is our sacred duty to expose such talk and prove that it is a snare and a delusion.

Now 'iron walls' do not protect you from inbound rockets and in fact you might
find that the walls eventually will not only keep others out...but also become a giant prison.

how ironic that israel is now the most unsafe place in the world for jews despite it's iron walls

Hizbullah said in a statement it had destroyed 11 Israeli tanks, killing or wounding their crews in the fighting.

Israel has lost 82 soldiers in the fighting. Yesterday it lost 15, the highest number of fatalities in a single day.

The government decided to expand its operations in Lebanon, allowing the army to move to the Litani river, 18 miles inside Lebanon. However, there is growing dissent within Israel about the war's conduct.

Danny Yatom, a reservist general and senior member of the Labour party, said that moving deeper into Lebanon was pointless. "We are banging our head against the wall," he told Israeli TV. "And even if we reach the Litani, the Katyushas won't stop."

Shahid, any idea what type they were? How many tubes per launcher and what caliber? The usual BM-21 Grad 122mm or some Zelzal 3/5 240/330mm?

The trucks I saw were identical to the one pictured in the first post, so apparently it's fajr-3. But I don't think it was an actual military operation, most probably a drill or a propaganda video. No special effects though, the rockets were real, but where they landed, that I don't know.

Hi all
It is my first massage in this forum. So I will try to give you some question.

How do they avoid the heat signatures ? Surely this could be easily detected from the air ?

In my expirience I know that a very well trained antitank gun crew can fire 40 shots in 4 min. 1 min. to secure gun on truck. And run like hell in shelter. Variation is, you do not go with truck just a driver, truck and gun. You disperse on ground or you go to fight like foot soldiers.
I know (my expirience to) that MRL with 32 tubes can fire salvo in 30 sec. or so. After that 1 min. to secure your MRL on truck and go.
So UAV must be very very near you to spot you on firing or moving.
But they have fire finder radar.
Fire finder radar have some time to track and calculate your firing position it is from 30" to minut. 30" to send given data to superior, anather 30" for him to choose unit and 30" to sent data to unit. In unit it is from 5 min to hm.. some time. For air force it is much more time.
Have a good day!

Hi chinggis… Welcome to the board, it is really nice to see people whit personal experience and practical knowledge…

You have raised some good points here and you are right UAVs and anti artillery radars have some limitations but if you know limitations of your equipment you can chose tactics that can reduce these limitations…

For example you can take terrain characteristics, communication infrastructure and rocket characteristics to tray to determine most possible firing positions and concentrate surveillance to these areas…
I mean IDF has enough UAVs and troops to complicate MLRS truck movement in southern Lebanon; especially if we consider terrain there… So I joust cant believe that complete MLRS battery could operate without being found and destroy…
Naturally smaller improvised launchers are much harder target since they are harder to locate and track…
