A navy one shot one kill

Yes, but what about a hit on the reactor itself. could you have a minny melt down or some sort of super heated steam explosion? I am talking a moskit or that other yonkont missile. At such high speed The KE would surly or could possibly put the missile into the reactor or at least near it compound it with 600lbs of high explosive going off deep inside of the ship. the blast wave effect would be horrid in the tight of a area.

but again what about the reactor would it "melt down"??

The reactor is full of water, and the temperature there is not extremely high.

Man!, I sure would like to see video of the attack on the Kitty-hawk. I bet they used every thing from Mk48,Harpoon and even laser guided bombs. I wonder when that info will come out.

you noticed that Israel has NEVER shown pic of that SAAR that took a ASM hit. The whole dam helo deck collapsed down one deck. I don't know how there keeping that info hidden.

Any body out their have any video of ASM or torpedo hits on vessels. I would very much love to see them....cheers ute.

PS" I am kind of disappointed no one has asked me about my avatar and what it its

Taiwan plans to mass produce supersonic anti-ship missiles to beef up the island's defense capabilities against China following successful test firings of the weaponry, a report said Monday.
The defense ministry next year would set aside a budget for mass production of the Hsiung Feng III missile, which is expected to make its debut during the 2006 "Han Kuang 22" exercise, the Chinese-language China Times said.

Given its speed and capability of flying at low altitude, the missile would be difficult to intercept, it said.

The Hsiung Feng III is capable of cruising at mach 2.5 and has a range of up to 150 kilometers (90 miles), it said.

Once the navy was equipped with the weaponry, the island would be one of the few countries in the world to be armed with supersonic anti-ship missiles, the paper said.

IN CLOSING: any fight against Taiwan and the PRC would be truly a lesson in insanity. It would be the first modern maritime fight that will send many many ships to the bottom of the cold sea along with the brave men and women aboard them.

It will be classified for some time. A long time. The info gained by that sinking will be used to finalize the design of CVN-78.

Rumor has it that some Sunburns, purchased from the Ukraine, were used when sinking the America. The America was a target for two weeks before it finally sucumbed to what ever sort of weapons it took to finally sink it.

Modern warships are full of electronic equipment that a single hit will pretty much mission kill. Just look at Gulf War I where a single mine hit took out an Aegis cruiser. Radars and communications system are very delicate things.

Most warships now are one hit one kill ships. Hitting them on the other hand, is another problem entirely.

Rumor has it that some Sunburns, purchased from the Ukraine, were used when sinking the America.

Really?? I did not know that.

I think, Oriskany is not a good example of sinking a warship, because the ship was well prepared with many watertight bulkheads already opened before the explosions took place.

In a Tom Clancy's novel was described a very interesting battle between Nimitz and backfires: the Nimitz was hitted by two kingfish missiles.
The first hitted the ship's island, the second hitted the hangar and the explosion open a hole on the fly deck.
Island is a big problem for carriers because has more RCS than all ship.
We can see in new carriers that islands are smaller and builded with stealth features. CVF have absolutely two islands:
1)to have two smaller structures. 2)to delocate the command structures.

this is all interesting information. but I want to know what happens if the actual reactor is hit and the fuel rods go blown threw the ship???? would there be a massive steam explosion?? Is there other type of fuel in that area which would detonate??

Post Script:I was under the impression that the bombs and missiles kept on the ship were armed so they could NEVER cook off unless armed??

Really?? I did not know that.

That rumor is started because the US addledgely bought some Sunburns in the '90's..

Wether the above finding is true or not..I do not know. That's how rumors get started.....

What ever method was used to sink the America is classified.

I was under the impression that the bombs and missiles kept on the ship were armed so they could NEVER cook off unless armed??

Weqpons are not armed when stored. But enough heat could defientaly "cook" them off..It would have to be a very high heat. Very High...
