Following the dissolution of the Strategic Support Force last year, it has been established as an independent military branch.
Strategic Support
"Force" and whoever succeeded it was and is called "兵种" not "军钟". The Chinese name for branch is 军种 and each branch is called X军, such as 陆军.
兵种 are types of troops/forces/units within each branches (军种), such as artellary, infantry and aerospace troops.
To see the difference, one must distinquish by Chinese words. Any forces ended with
“部队" are types like infantry, artellary etc. including the "aerospace troops". Any forces ended with "
军" is a branch.
The distinction is crystal clear in Chinese names “信息支援
部队" (not a branch) and "火箭
军" (branch). The confusion is introduced by translating to English using "force" which is used in both classifications. The proper translation of "军事航天
部队" should have been "military aerospace troops".
