Power consumption is less of an issue, considering how "overpowered" 055 is, in any case a 300kW laser is not going add a lot more burden to a 4X28MW ship.

Space though is an issue. IMO only when lasers are considered to be superior to CIWS will we start to see lasers on board replacing things like 1130.

Another possibility is perhaps redesigning the integrated mast to leave room for lasers system, this would be the optimal solution giving laser turret the topmost position with clear los and better range against sea skimmers
The higher the position the harder it is to compensate for roll in rougher seas though. Would expect a laser to be mounted about where the test ships have it, below bridge height on most ships.

071 is pretty much an empty ship when it comes to armament and sensors compared to its massive size. So, it could have been very easy to add this. When looking at type 052D or Type 055, every single space on deck has some purpose. You have VLS, RAM, Guns, Radar and sensor suits. So, I don't think it will be easy to put these lasers without costly retrofit.
No, SOYO specifically mentioned 071 as a ship with little sensor requirement hence little installed capacity could use the system with little modification means the rest of the fleet would not have issue with electrical capacity.

They mean untested in peer combat. Which is technically true; there really is no substitute for facing enemy ECM and VLO and so forth. You can prepare as much as possible, but how all the systems actually interact in anger is the ultimate question.

What they almost always leave out is that the US is equally untested.

May 7th doesn’t count as peer combat? It’s the peerest combat in the last two decades.

5.7 is better than everything the US have done in the past decade but it isn't true peer combat. The Indian side have questionable EW cover, little to no AEWC support and no 5th generation fighter.

By this definition Gulf War One doesn’t count as true peer combat either because Iraq fielded questionable EW cover, no AEWC support and sure as hell didn’t have stealth tech of any form.
