Maybe they already have Chinese assistance. I mean, China did sign a $400b investment agreement with them, right? I'm sure it also includes some security measures. And it's probably better for both sides to keep it secret.

If they bomb your hospital FIRST, and you don't reply in kind, then you've just signaled to them that you're fine accepting such hits. Only when you bomb their hospital in revenge will Israelis understand that hey, maybe we shouldn't do this next time.

The argument you're presenting here is ridiculous and exactly the type that incentavises Israel to commit MORE war crimes. You said "just because Israel does war crimes doesn't mean Iran can also do it" ... come on.. seriously? That's like saying "just because America nuked Russia, doesn't mean Russia can nuke America" (negating MAD). This is literally latent supremacist talk, sugarcoated with clever aphorisms and philosophical claptrap.

I'm afraid this is the only language Israel understands - if condemnations from the entire globe, hundreds of resolutions against them, diplomacy & negotiations, etc., doesn't stop them, than nothing will except reciprocity.

I wouldn't persoanlly read too much into these public statements about no assistance, they're a threat to enemies as much as they are a reassurance for the public, basically "we're fine despite everything, our allies haven't even gotten involved yet." In other words, run of the mill propaganda during war. You should expect them to say it even if they were getting assistance.

You guys really need to stop with the Israeli hospital argument.
1. Iran claimed that the target was an Israeli military facility right next to it. Which was struck. Damage to the hospital was secondary from the shock wave and resulted mainly in broken windows.
2. That hospital is used to treat Israeli military conducting the genocide in Gaza.
3. Israel has already damaged hospitals in Iran. And conducted a deliberate, well publicized, campaign where they destroyed hospitals and kill doctors and first aid responders in Gaza.

Weren't there reports that two Chinese ELINT ships entered the area? Who wants to bet they're only there for sightseeing?

This whole thing doesn't make sense on the surface. Airstrikes alone won't result in regime change, and there's no viable proxy for the US to use, the Iranians will rally and mobilize against the likes of Kurds and ISIS.

My hypothesis is that the US wants China or Russia to get involved by threatening to attack Iran, but neither are taking the bait.

I think you have a pretty high likelihood of being right on this one. The whole thing is a bear trap and everyone is trying to trick someone else into stepping into it.

So did things die down today? Been almost an hour without a post in this thread! Hopefully this conflict dies with a whimper rather than a bang.

I wonder if the US "two week" decision period is to move more forces into the region as well as see how the conflict plays out?

Technically, you're justifying the genocide committed by Israel. "We can do genocide, but you can't" ... same logic as "we can have nukes, but you can't". I think you do not realize that you ARE a supremacist.

Who exactly is a civilian in Israel? Only the local Arab population is civilian and maybe the tiny communities such as the Druze, Samaritan, and Armenian Quarter (but only those who didn't enlist in IDF). The rest, the vast majority of Jews, are literally foreign invaders, settler-colonialists with all adults bar Haredi having served in IDF.

The correct word is: "non-combatant".
When the British invaded Hind, their total population during the occupation never exceeded 62,000, among which ~30,000 were soldiers and ~30,000 non-combatants (administrators, engineers, professionals, etc); none of them qualified as civilian. That's what Israelis are.

More and more reports like these are emerging,

Modi did meet Netanyahu in Cyprus just two days after the Pahalgam incident, and again recently just before this Iran conflict.

Wild guess on Indian strategy,

India, with it's own superpower ambitions, knew Russia is getting left behind a bit, feared the rise of China, ditched Russia to join the NATO-Israel nexus.

This nexus required India to pass some tests as initiation into the club. 1. An attack on Pakistan to weaken it, and show NATO that India can hinder Chinese interests in the region, prevent Pakistan from supporting Iran in anyway, as well as bring Pakistan's nukes back into the spotlight (for removal); and 2. Ditch previous agreements with Iran and instead use those developments for espionage and sabotage operations for the benefit of Israel.

Messing up #1 angered NATO enough to shower Pakistan with praise, kick India out of G-7, and humiliate it on the international level in many ways. While #2 succeeded, or atleast initially as they all seem to be getting rounded up now by Iran.

I think the coming days will tell how much India succeeded, gauged by Western interactions with India (i.e. rewarded or punished?).

For those who followed the Afghan War and India's involvement, the Chabahar Port was supposed to be India's entry point into Afghanistan to train terrorists against Pakistan. India invested into Chabahar (Iran gave India a 10-year lease), invested in a rail connection from Chabahar to [I forgot], setting up a corridor to Afghanistan. But as NATO withdrew, to the dismay of India, and a historically anti-India Taliban formed the government, India's entire strategy (at the time) pretty much backfired. That is (my guess) when India decided to continue this project for the Israeli-NATO nexus - instead of targeting Pakistan, as initially planned, the corridor shifted towards anti-Iran operations. Hence, you got now Iran apprehending both Indians and Afghans who worked for Israel.
