Qatar attack was theatrics, not a real military attack. Is it possible that, like is here, that Iran did not known during the conflict that Israeli planes were using bases in Azerbaijan? Considering how Iran repeatedly struck air bases in Israel, I think that remains a distinct possibility.
Yeah those were theatrics so they had a real chance to do damage of an actual enemy base in a neighbouring country, that would actually make sense but I guess Iran having large Azeri community doesnt help.
Honestly that be embarrassing, one of those drop tanks in the water picture is daysss old, like during the conflict.
Or perhaps they were able to deduce Israeli warplanes were launching strikes from Azeri territory, but did not have enough intelligence to know exactly which airbase to target. Then again, Iranians may have feigned ignorance to avoid widening the conflict.
And now they have the perfect justification to resolve the afghan refugee crisis in Iran. Nations at war can be much more decisive than the peacetime government that made them weak
Tehran is closer and easier to access via Azerbaijan. Although, I don't believe Israeli jets flew over Iran to get to Azerbaijan. I suspect they flew through Turkey.
I wrote something about this in last year's conflict - route to Tehran via Baku. I don't remember what it was. I am sure Iran is aware of it. After all, Azerbaijan has close ties with Israel.
