I think it could happen. But only after the AL-51 is available for Su-57. Similar small amount to Su-35 purchase.
If anything it would provide China with a chance to evaluate the possible future fighters of both India and Vietnam.
Just the intel it would provide is worth the price of the purchase.
though nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. but no, China will not purchase any fighter jet from Russia. that era has been over..

China have more stealth platforms to invest like J-20/J-35 and 6th gen J-XX is coming too.

Su-57 is flying as well?

I know this is debate has been squashed already but what are the chances PLAAF takes a bite on the Su-57 and gets like 24? It will be mostly political reasons if that ever happens.
This is got to be the worst idea ever.

why would PLA add another fleet type and engine type that could effectively operate from just one base?

The container label reads "CS/BBD5 500kg glide bomb (display model)".

The days of purchasing a Russian jet to evaluate its engines have passed. SU-35 is probably the last deal for such purpose. However, buying SU-57 for aggressor squadron does have some good point.

The main idea of having an aggressor jets are mainly to train your own pilots against a dissimilar fighter type, preferably ones operated by your potential enemy, and develop your pilot skills in countering fighting tactic and doctrine of your foe.

Thus in respect of aircraft type, instead of SU-57, using J35 against J20 would be better choice. Using J35 to simulate F-35, and using Western fighting tactic , doctrine and use only English for aggressor pilots can achieve the desired effect.

It just arrived … but really? Still onyl a prototype? Showing no. 054 and not a production aircraft would be as if China would show a no. 201X prototype in 2024!
