Daily reminder that even though guardian is a left leaning and non Murdoch paper, it's still follows the sinophobic narrative.

Compare the different coverage of Beijing Olympics and Tokyo Olympics.

One described with headlines of horror, dismayed, villains and facial.

The other with far more positive terms

Getting closer...
You missed low viewership and also...

The U.S.-Canada game for gold averaged 3.54 million viewers on NBC, more than any NHL game this season, making it the second-most watched hockey game in the U.S. since 2019 (Game 5 of the Canadiens-Lightning Stanley Cup final drew roughly 200,000 more viewers) and a total of 2.7 million Canadians watched at some point, according to TSN public relations

The fact TV sets were turned off in the huge North American market should send a message to the IOC in the only money that gets their attention.

Wait, when did the US and Canada fight for gold in this Olympics? The gold medal match was between Finland and ROC. Is this reporter an idiot?

Womens hockey.

The Olympics is actually the biggest competition for Womens Hockey, since there's no NHL-equivalent for women's hockey so the best players really only get to play together at the Olympics.

Haha my bad. Completely forgotten about them after Chinese team didn't progress to quarters.

That's actually great viewing numbers. I didn't know people cared that much for women's hockey. Also with the different time zones, it makes the viewing numbers more remarkable.

Well, in general people don't. But they do when its the Olympics!

Just for reference, article about 2018 game:

2018, same game, from the article:

Wednesday’s United States-Canada Olympic women’s hockey final earned 2.89 million viewers on NBCSN, and 3.7 million across all platforms — including streaming and an overtime simulcast on NBC.

The United States’ shootout win declined from 2014, when coverage aired in the afternoon on NBC (4.9M), but increased from 2010, when coverage aired in primetime on MSNBC (2.5M).

So this time, with 3.54 million on the channel, is actually an increase compared to the Pyongyang match, but not as much as Sochi. Overall though, its just a really good turnout. Which, of course, the mainstream media completely ignores in favor of "CHINA BAD" articles, like a bunch of fucking children.

Note that NBC hasn't given viewership numbers yet on streaming, the 3.54 million is just on the TV sets. NBC has said, however, that Discovery+ (their streaming service) was a huge, huge success.
