Wow, just wow. New low for NYT. Sadly, these kinds of articles are usually written by Chinese female journalists.

I did not like this article, for obvious reasons.

However, this is a good exercise in spotting the propaganda, and propaganda methods.

Essentially, they are labeling China as a nation of wife beaters.

That is the message they want to put out.

China = wife beaters.

Since Gu Ailing bring home the medals, the fake news of America media corporations must double down on China abuses their women stories, because they are wife beaters.

Make no mistake about it, Gu Ailing was a massive propaganda win for the Chinese, and no one was even trying. It just happened.

The American media was taken aback, and they go back to the standard low blows, accusing China of being a wife beater.

Then they silence their own athletes who did not tow the party line.

Wondering if Global Times will run a few foreign wife beating stories?

Probably not. Not many people go that low.

:D

have they disappeared him already?

It is said that his twitter account has been restored. The freeze seems to have happened before the Winter Games started:
随后有消息称阿伦因称赞北京冬奥会,批评部分美国媒体,其推特账号被冻结。不过据环球网报道,根据互联网档案馆保存的网页资料,阿伦的推特账号至少在2021年就已遭冻结,与此次记者会发言无关。目前该账号已恢复功能。

Someone with enough reading comprehension to understand the difference between telling you what to post and asking you why you post low quality articles.

You don't want me to post some articles by questioning me why I post some articles that you deem low quality. I am just being more straightforward by telling you that it is none of your business.
Sure, you're free to post whatever you like within the rules, just as I'm free to give my opinion on it. Here it is again, you post a lot of low quality articles. Consider this some friendly advice and not me "telling you what to post": try posting more articles that are informative and useful, and fewer hanjian opinion pieces.

Firstly, I have no beef with you. Secondly, I don't care what you have to say.
Given my engagement with members here - meaningful engagement where we exchange paragraphs of our own writing rather than single-sentence posts and links to Western propaganda - I'd say my views align very closely with those of the majority.

You and your buddies or gang in this forum isn't my problem or concern. If you think your views represent the majority of opinion here, so be it. However, they are big boys, they can speak for themselves and don't need you to speak for them.
That's a tautology. Unless you're a spokesperson for an organization communicating in an official capacity, you by definition only speak for yourself.

Which begs the question of what it is you think you're doing here. Your response to my question implied that you felt you needed to enlighten "the majority of Chinese" about the West's opinion of them. First, we're far from the majority of Chinese here and SDF wouldn't even be the venue to address them. Second, I find your opinion of what the majority of Chinese people's opinions of the West rather condescending.

I have been here much longer than you are. I don't know why I should answer to you and explain to you. You are not in any position to question me. I think you think too highly of yourself. It is just a forum. As long as I am respectful to others, then it is none of your business.

However, I would say I don't plan to enlighten anyone. I used to have lengthy discussions with members of many forums including CHF, CDF, CMF. And I learn that don't ever think you can ever enlighten anyone, don't try to convince everyone, don't ever think you know everything, and don't be an ass. As for posting articles, many members of CDF used to post many articles from different sources. Some of them are very informative, some of them are very valuable, some of them I find useless. However, different people react differently for different article. CDF doesn't have a forum police to question what should post and what shouldn't post. I enjoy reading and learning from those articles and discussions. I just find out that SDF has a forum police to enforce what articles can be posted or not.

And I think you are so arrogant to think that you know how I think.

I thought one had to meet a qualifying standard to compete at the games . If it wasnt then there should have been more Chinese competitors in some of those ski events when there is only one competeing for the final 12. The event where the mens big sky event has only one compared to the Japanese three.
There is quota to every country in Olympic. That is why lots of Chinese table tennis players representing other countries because otherwise they would not have a chance in Olympic even if they are able to beat anybody out side of China.

It kind of is. By posting an article publicly, the expectation is that members will engage with it. I engaged with it by telling you it sucks and asking why you posted it. In hindsight, I shouldn't have asked you anything - I should have just said it sucks. If my asking you why you posted it offended you so deeply, I withdraw the question.
Firstly, I have no beef with you.
Neither do I have any beef with you.
Secondly, I don't care what you have to say.
Yet you can't seem to drop this.
However, they are big boys, they can speak for themselves and don't need you to speak for them.
I didn't claim to speak for them. I speak for myself, and I'm speaking for myself when I say that this forum already has enough trash posted to it and that posters - especially those who make a habit of posting a dozen news articles a day - might want to exercise some judgement on what would be useful and edifying to post. I don't find the scribblings of a contemptible, white-worshipping hanjian useful or edifying. That's just, like, my opinion, man.

And guess what? I'm going to express my opinion.
As long as I am respectful to others, then it is none of your business.
Since you've been here so much longer than me, surely you know that the posts one makes to a public forum are sort of the business of anyone who reads them and wants to respond to them. And once again, if the question offended you so much then pretend I never asked it. If I could edit my original post, it would just be "this article is trash".
And I think you are so arrogant to think that you know how I think.
I don't know what you think, I responded to what you wrote. One of your experience surely knows that that's how discussions on a forum work.

I don't want to further derail the thread. This is my last post responding to you on this topic.

You didn't offend me. I simply just don't care. I was trying to be respectful by replying to your post not because I can't drop this. Don''t have problem with you expressing yourself.

Understandably, you feel such article is trash. Not saying it isn't trash. However, Economist, FT, NYT, WP, WSJ all used to have high quality articles about China. Nowadays, that is what they wrote about. Like it or not, that's what most of their audiences think and see.

I used to think Apple Daily is trash. I also think Fox news is trash. But both of them are very effective. I used to think people in Hong Kong would be smart enough to see through those fake news. But am I wrong. Now come back to this article, is this article trash, look like one. Is this article effective in demonize and dehumanize China and Chinese, definitely. It is a good propaganda that by associating women abuse with China and at the same questioning Gu's character for standing with such nation.

That's all I am going to say.
