Yuzuru Hanyu is famous in many Asian countries (China included) so majority of the comments are about him.
On other hand, Nathan Chen isn't very well known. Opinions were varied. Not many negative comments actually.
The double standards shown here by bloomberg and other newspapers is sickeningly. Eileen Gu received so much hate mail, even death threats and not a single peep from western MSM. Meanwhile, Nathan received a couple of negative comments and they decide to write an entire article about how mean spirited Chinese netizens are. Come on, completely ridiculous!
Now, don't hate on me for this, but this is the brutal honest truth:
Women are the biggest fans of male figure skating.
Yuzuru Hanyu looks like a Kpop idol, studies art and has a long history of engagement with Chinese fans. He has large eyes, light skin and is of moderate height (172 cm).
He has the looks and personality to be popular with women.
Nathan Chen is 168 cm tall, studies math, is not that good at Chinese. He never even tried to have a Chinese fandom on Weibo.
Of course he doesn't get attention.
