and broadcasting.

“Considering that Olympic videos on YouTube and TikTok are going to rack up hundreds of millions of views, I wouldn’t be surprised if these Olympic Games end up being one of the most-viewed video events in U.S. history,” he said. Combined with widespread interest in China, Socolow added, the Games in Beijing could become the most-viewed video program in world history.
Basically Olympic TV viewership is down yes, but it's actually because people are watching it on other platforms and not on TV anymore. From those it seems its as popular as ever.

I mean, duh. Isn't that what's been having for TV shows for ages?

Article says that Eileen Gu's parents were rich n privileged and the Chinese parents should't expect their children to be like Eileen or Lang Lang or Nathan Chen because of different circumstances. Don't heap on stress n pressure on ur children expecting them to be superstars or play at Carnegie Hall

I don't think China Daily's characterization (which many Chinese media also seem to make) is quite accurate, as more information about Eileen Gu's journey to Beijing Olympic have started to emerge. In bits and pieces though.

Put simply, Eileen's mother - her father's role does not appear significant if at all - did invest a lot of resources and efforts into her growth, but the Chinese side had discovered, targeted and groomed her since she was just a little teen. Remember Eileen announced her decision to represent China when she was fifteen, which means the grooming had gone on for a few years before that. In fact, there were deliberate and well planned video filming by Chinese organizations and companies on her life even during those years. Eileen's connection with and her Chineseness are a lot deeper and longer than most media have reported so far.

Certainly. She had close Chinese cultural connections thru mom n grandmom.

In any case her upbringing isn't typical and shouldn't be imitated wholesale by tiger parents

Nathan Chen is a race hanjian plain and simple.
Nathan Chen did betray the entire Chinese people and his heritage and ancestors to simp for a racists Anglo White regime that wants nothing more than to subjegate, obliterate and genocide all things Chinese
this is uncalled for. The Chinese people spread and embed in other countries is the best things since the opium war. I just can't see how Chinese becoming top athletes, tech/business leaders, and even political leaders around the world being a bad thing. It certainly would be difficult if not impossible. But I won't be the one to bash Chinese people for their achievements. I would support them to overcome discrimination by other peoples.

Also, I think the west have done a lot of horrible things. But please stick with facts and don't over exaggerate. We can only beat/surpass them with science and reason, and especially a cool head. hyperbole will never make us the leader of the world. US hyperbole is hurting them and benefiting us.

They should give Su and Shaun White honorary gold medals. Shaun White because of lifelong contributions to snowboarding

I do not see why the IOC cannot give Su a gold medal given the head judge during play had already admitted that there was s serious judgement mistake. It is not Su's fault that the sports and IOC had failed him and denied him the medal he deserved.

What are the legal pathways? What are the legal precedents?

At this point the only recourse is legal. And as a poster previously mentioned it might be better to leave it for diplomatic reasons...

It is up to the IOC and relevant sports association to make amends for their admitted failure.

It is not unusual to have double gold medals awarded in such events, specially for immature discipline such as snowboarding.
AGAIN, it is not Su's fault that the sport organization have failed him and the head judge have admitted to this misjudgement.
