I think that in terms of raw running performance, the average U.S. track athlete is superior to his Chinese counterpart. The problem is with the cooperation part of the equation. I think former champion Carl Lewis put it very well in this tweet.

Went through the follow up tweets. Read at least fifty that would be considered athlete abuse by BBC. When are they going to do an article? Black athletes are being abused online. Surely that counts for something.

It is unfortunately for China a problem of era, not a individual. In the last two decades the Chinese social altitude has become more and more focused on superficial characters of people. One can see the manifestation like the vastly used word of "颜值" (beauty value), the word comes very often about everything, every person before going into any subject. One can also see the TV dramas played by actors and actresses of massive cosmetic surgery for any characters even red army soldiers in the 1930s. There is a recent statistic that says that people born in the 90s and 00s are the most psychologically stressed about their appearances.

There is also a strong trend in advocating social status of gender. Such as the controversy of some private schools to teach girls to be "girls". These trend usually wears a cover of "restoring the tradition". But it is just digging up traditional garbage instead of treasure.

Then there is the trendy word of "精英" (social elite) and "素质" (quality) when talking about people. The media is trying to build a social class system that looks like the US and UK. Actually these self identified "elite" is very found of British cultural (not the good ones) which is known in China to be aristocratic upper class.

The one thing I love the communist party is that it almost eradicated these backwardness. But with the "freeing up" and heavy commercialization of society, I am worried that China is mentally going backward while economically going forward. If this is not changed, China would end up going just another circle like the past, a hundred years of hard work leading to a few decades of glory while the mind is being corrupted, then heading to disasters.

let's not forget our compatriots in Hong Kong getting their bronze medals beating the Germans. These compatriots makes me proud (unlike those used condoms) to be a Hong Kong citizens as well as being Chinese.

I love the last caption. For those don't read Chinese. It says, "We are also Chinese"!

Yes, that's true. But in this case, it just simply hair that makes the difference from a tomboy to a cute young lady. I hope you agree?
Hair definitely a huge difference, but seems like makeup is involved in this case too. In the pictures where she has long hair, I think she may be using at least some foundation. Either that or she is having a temporary mild acne break out currently.
