Initial indian reports claimed that Su-30MKIs were flying CAP and had successfully chased back the Pakistani Aircraft that struck targets in India, now after the Pakistanis claimed 2 IAF aircraft were shot down the Indians are claiming no Su-30MKI were in the area.

But what you have attached doesn't support your claim that Indians have changed their claim about MKI being in the area. Or are you referring to a difference source? I mean sources can tell different stories. This guy's story seems to stick with the CAP of MKI. It is at odds with Pakistan's story of not using any F-16 and using Mirage for the attack.

Very true. If anything these events should be a strong reminder that they can't be foot-dragging on procurement anymore.
I'll try to find those posts too. I'm barely able to keep up with the constant stream of posts at this time. The important thing is the confirmation from Shiv Aroor that CAP was being flown by MKIs in the area.
Procurement is not the way to go. Lucky that Chinese leaders recognised this reality back in the Mig-17 days. Any imported key equipment no matter how sophisticated it is marketed to be, is far less capable in reality. India needs to find some way to really kickstart their domestic industry. Tejas represents some effort in that direction. Foreign weapons depend on the whims of their manufacturers and the politics of the home country they are made in. They could also be corrupted and important information handed over to unfriendly nations. You think the French will protect Rafale's trade secrets for Indian goodwill when they know they will almost certainly not be used against China? I guess it's still a better bet than going with Su-57.

Tejas represents a beautiful combination of excessive ambition, yet w/o taking the reins of key components. In other words, a good answer on how simultabeously to take a step too far, yet to do not enough.
Most of critical hardware is imported(and those which aren't, like engine, are the most troublesome parts). Yet even this way it doesn't work, because "plane" part wasn't done right either.
