I will be straight forward and clear, Ukraine peoples are very nice and friendly they are good to do business with and always wanted to be separate from Russia but at the same time they were also nice to the Russians and allowed them the naval base for the Russian Black Sea Fleet

It's the responsibly of all European country's, NATO and US to help Ukraine and stand by them throgh thick and thin

All of them should be ashamed with thier slow slow approach with all the modern militray hardware they were unable to stop Crimea falling to Russia

I am not saying there should be a war but where is the deterrence now???

Europe is shivering with fear of Russia no one has the guts to stand up to them and this just gives them more and more confidence tomorrow when another Eastern European country's falls under the spell of Russia

The referredum is illegal and not recognised, you can't deport the ethnic people's send in Russians hold referredum and say its part of your country

This is illegal the region was ethically cleansed and Crimes belongs to Ukraine end of story

For all their naval power the West has let Ukraine down so quick to jump to Libya and Syria yet nothing when a entire region is axed by Russia shameful

That's what this is shameful tomorrow who's next?

From bajingan:
You know whats funny? the way all western leaders has been portraying Putin as irrational, crazy leader, just like Merkel who said that Putin was in another world. When themselves are not in touch with reality.
Merkel knows Putin well. I think what she really said was that Obama and Putin live in different worlds, implying that Putin looks at the facts on the ground while Obama believes in fairy tales. And then the sentence fell into the hands of the spin doctors ...

Hey, I just gave you official government data. Are they lying ? Don't know :D

...

Jeff, Thud, thanks to you, I just looked into stuff I don't understand at all :) which is shale gas and let me ask you a dumb question: Are you sure it's not yet another bubble?

Back to the Ukraine Crisis: I thought the Russian export/EU import of gas was more dependent on the Ukrainian pipeline, but if I'm not mistaken:
1. only 66% of Russian gas export transits Ukraine;
2. while the EU imports about 4.6 trillion cubic feet of Russian gas, it also imports 3.2 trillion cubic feet of Liquified Natural Gas
(I hope I didn't mess up those numbers :)
So this dependence is not that bad ... but maybe it is: "The only U.S. plant for LNG, operated by ConocoPhillips (COP) in Alaska, has been shut since 2012." according to

I think the result from the Crimea referendum and the other protests past and present in the Ukraine do actually identify one overall unifying factor:

Irrespective of whether it is the Western Regions wanting to join the EU or the Eastern wanting to join Russia, that the majority of Ukrainians actually do not want to be a part of Ukraine!

The more I look, I think the more I see Yugoslavia style disintegration on the cards!

The last time the West went out to protect it destroyed a whole country: Libya.
The difference between Kosovo and the Crimea is that in the first case there was first three years of terrorism, supported by the US as they are now doing in Syria, then two and a half months of bombardment and then occupation by NATO. The Russians didn't sponsor terrorism nor committed bombardment. Or do you think a referendum is only legal when validated by the US?

You're absolutely right Asif, if BHO can't ride in with this Calvary at his back, he is a sorry specimen, sadly no one on his team tells him what a punk he looks like. That's the problem when your inner circle includes not one single STATESMAN, not to mention a single GENTLEMAN, and not one with the stones to tell you NO! It is indeed shameful, and you have very succinctly pointed out the true absurdity of owning the most efficient, at the same time ineffective military apparatus the world has ever seen.

and I most certainly wish I could disagree with you Master Delft, but when you are right, as you are about Libya, I must agree, Mr Khadafi was a stabilizing factor, and to depose him, with a mob, then we lose our ambassador, Timothy Stevens, and those brave, honorable men who tried to save him, our God will surely judge this???

Shale gas and oil shale are real deals, there is no doubt about that. There is real potential to sustain whole Earth for 50-100 years until we get something better. But, it is not a silver bullet for all economic troubles. Extraction of shale gas and oil from oil shale do cost more. Therefore, we could expect prices of energy to rise in the future as we replace conventional sources with shale sources.

The issue here delft is that two wrong don't make a right, I am not supporting the actions of US on Libya or Iraq and not supporting Russia for standing by Assad what is wrong is wrong

You deport all the ethnic people and send in Russians and hold a referredum and say its your territory?

That's like Scotland saying the Inner and Outer Hebrides belong to Scotland and we justify that by settling in Scots and displacing the natives and holding a referendum in like 2 days change the currency change even the national time and language and say right guys this is our peice of land

This is not 19th century where you can plant a flag and claim a territory it's 2014 and this type of behaviour by a permanent security council member is not acceptable

US likes to be the policeman when it's suites them I bet Ronald Reagon won't stand for this back in the days neither would Jimmy Carter

Bush let Putin away with Georgia and Obama let Putin away with Syria and now paid a bigger price by letting Crimea slip, man we are talking about Crimea here it's a important place it belongs to Ukraine!
