Last, new infos,

Now almost sure the 413, only 093A without VLS is in service from 2015 launched in 12/2012.

Seems 414 the first new 093B with VLS in service and 415 - 418 in construction maybe the 4 in service for 2019/20 one by year about.

New definitely replacing 091 so a fleet of 8 SSNs now 5.

093 : 407, 408
094 : 409 - 412

With these last infos which confirm i have posted before we can considered !

Deployment

NSF, Shakizou/Jiangezhuang close Qingdao, 1st Submarine Base
Sure
3 x 091
Almost sure the first 093B, 414 Henri K say the pic from there, remains possible he have moved after for Yalong Bay ?

SSF, Yalong Bay close Sanya, 2nd Submarine Base
Sure
2 x 093 + 4 x 094
And make sense the 093A, no pics, based there do same SSN number as NSF, in more very important used for escort SSBNs in the SCS bastion and considering it soon a 093B.
SCS bastion remains not ideal for detection coz except in the center around much coastal, shallow water and 094 yet enough noisy as all nuclear submarines are less discret in these areas.

Construction :

Considering the 413, 093A launched in 12/2012 normaly and 414, 1st 093B in service in 2016 presumably... in this case lauched in 2013,

With these 2 facts we can consider actualy they build one SSN by year after a break brtween 2007 - 2012, new since 2012.

it seems to be a common mistake to assume that Type 094 is equipped with a 8000 km ICBM with single warhead. The data on range is quite classified and various Chinese sources have said they can fit 3 to 5 on there. Of course, the number of warhead also effects the range.

Also as for how many subs are where. you can look at GE to see for yourself. It's interesting to see which submarines are making patrols based on that.

A recent article on Perisher training came out below

Does anyone have anything on submarine training in the Chinese Navy, like the equivalent to the British Perisher course or the US submarine Command Course?

It's interesting to note how engineering biased the US course is, when compared to the focus on command in Perisher.

And it looks like the consensus is that submarine captain quality is much higher in the British Navy than in the USN. Now, submarine captain quality is a highly subjective measure, but I'm reminded of an old book which noted that in the days of the cold war, the British submarine force normally had 1-2 exceptionally brilliant submarine captains. In comparison, the much larger US submarine force only had 1-2 as well. Come to think of it, I also recall a few books that cover Perisher.

Now, if I were a Chinese admiral, I'd very much be looking to design a course on the Perisher model.

But when you use a nuclear submarine for Perisher training, the inevitable repairs from prangs and collisions get very expensive. And it does tie up a very expensive nuclear submarine. Luckily, China has a number of cheaper AIP submarines that it can use, unlike the all-nuclear British or American submarine force.

Plus you need the personnel to design and then run a command training programme. The Captain of the Song submarine that surfaced next to the Kitty Hawk and whose exploits in the SCS were published a while back sounds like the ideal candidate.

It kind of reminds me of the huge improvement in fighter pilot training as a result of the Golden Helmet competitions, when a single pilot absolutely destroyed every other competitor in the first 2 years. Then his methods were replicated across the Air Force.

Do you mean the with the hatches open? It is to air the tubes out lol. Wonder if any of the other nation's SSBN does that, open the hatches when in port.
it was part of international contracts between SU/Russia and USA ... I ll show you what I have and you 'll show me, what you have - so we trust ...

Sounds like a good arrangement, nothing to hide and foster good understanding of what the other can do. Thanks for the clarification Scz
