Excellent presentation by Eurasia Congratulations if you visit this site I know you are a member. Well-researched and accurate presentation of the status of the Chinese nuclear submarine program. I totally enjoy it even if I know most of it but the total presentation package
The Type 093B is the latest of the Shang class SSN family. They feature new technology for Chinese submarines, including a VLS vertical launch system and pump-jet propulsor. Want to support the channel? Instead of one showmanship, he presents his research I like his approach. Now this Huludao new plant can pump this baby like there is no tomorrow be afraid hegemon

I like this comment and with the news of the Chinese laser. China definitely progress in their quest to overwhelm the hegemon make my day

Every iteration that China built, they get closer to Western subs standards. It means the west will have to put in more effort to get an edge over China's technological assets. As long as China is still making progress catching up, it will eventually catch up to western standards. But the west does not have China's industrial capacity, so in a near peer playing field, China will just outbuild the west. The trend is clear, China has already caught up in many areas and surpassed the west and is catching up in other areas. But it does not mean the west can catch up to China for areas where they are losing ground. Hypersonics, AI are just a couple of areas we know that the west has already been left behind by China and they are not catching up, even the US. We are seeing that every time the US manages to catch up to one aspect of hypersonic weaponry, China is already introducing a new form of hypersonic weaponry like hypersonic drones for recon and attack. Only those still living in the western media bubble cannot see this trend. Or else, they will all be shitting their pants.

Do you think 18 VLS is possible and/or confirmed? .... I am very surprised actually ... I though max 12
There is no theoretical maximum number of VLS missile tubes for SSNs. It all depends on how long and how large the diameter of the SSN is.

Based on what we do know so far, the 093B SSN is rumored to have 18 individual VLS missile tubes. Hence, total = 18 missiles.

For comparison with other VLS-equipped SSNs:
- Block 1-2 Virginia SSN has 12 individual VLS missile tubes = Total 12 missiles.
- Block 3-4 Virginia SSN has 2 multipack VLS cells with 6 missile tubes each = Total 12 missiles.
- Block 5 Virginia SSGN has 2 multipack VLS cells with 6 missile tubes each, plus 4 multipack VLS cells with 7 missile tubes each = Total 40 missiles.
- Yasen SSN has 8 multipack VLS cells with 3 or 4 missile tubes each = Total 24 to 32 missiles.
- Yasen-M SSN has 10 multipack VLS cells with 3 or 4 missile tubes each = Total 30 to 40 missiles.

However, it should be noted that Block 5 Virginia SSGNs are meant to replace the aging converted-Ohio SSGNs from the late-2020s onwards. Hence, their designation as SSGNs (nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine) instead of SSNs (nuclear-powered attack submarines).

Speaking of the SSGNs:
- Converted-Ohio SSGN has 22 multipack VLS cells with 7 missile tubes each = Total 154 missiles(!)
- Proposed Borei-K SSGN has (estimated) 12 (low) or 16 (high) multipack VLS cells with (estimated) 3 or 4 missile tubes each = Total (estimated) 36 to 48 missiles (low) or 48 to 64 missiles (high).

Finally, it should also be noted that the 093B SSNs are merely intermediates. The successor-class, i.e. 095 SSNs are expected to have more than 2 (I'm guessing 8 or 10 or 12) multipack VLS cells with 3 missile tubes each.

Though, continuing the discussion on the 095 here risks derailing this thread, so please continue and view the discussion in the 095 SSN/096 SSBN thread instead.

Someone noted that 095 class may use thorium reactors.. any anecdotal evidence to that or just mere speculation?
