I think the nature of this thread will invariably lead to discussions about US vs. China specfics which is against Forum rules.

with SLBMs that cannot hit the US from Chinese EEZ.

No, consensus in PLA literature is that the 094 needs to leave the 1st island chain to be considered effective deterrence.

Well there is no point for liaoning to break out since satellites can undoubtedly track its movements. But what's the chance of the U.S. setting up a solus system in the area to track submarines?
Given the current state of Chinese Submarine technology, what are the chances that a Type 94 submarine could enter the Western Pacific without being tracked? What measures do US and allies have in place to detect Chinese submarines? And if so, what countermeasures could China deploy to break defeat such attempts at detection?

There is no need to create new threads, when there is already a 094 thread. And no, we are here not trying to have war talks. You can do that at other political forum.

dvan0, please read forum rules before you start such posts.

Just on a technical aspects, 094 is unlikely to ever leave EEZ without getting tracked. Also based on sources that I think are somewhat reliable, JL-2A have much longer range than the reported <5000 mile range of JL-2. So it does represent credible deterrent even around South China Sea.

JL-2/A would cover the whole USA from Chinese water
I thought the JL-2A only as a range of 7,400km? You really need to say beyond the 1st Island Chain to be able to hit New York and DC. The 094 is too loud to be able to dive beyond the 1st Island Chain. It is a piece of cake for the Virginias and Soryus to track down the five 094. I feel like the JL-2A is really aimed at Europe, European Russia and India since it can hit the three regions countries when launched from the Bohai Sea (the only place safe enough for PLAN's loud boomers to operate). If China develops a 11,000km+ SLBM (like Trident II), then there will be a real sea-based deterrent against the US. For now, the land-based DF-5As, DF-31As, and the almost-finished DF-41s are enough to deter the U.S. (minimum deterrence).

JL-2 ranges are unclear or outright classified. Estimations vary from 7,200km to well over 10,000km. This variance probably due the the warhead size & number of warheads.

But you are right about submarine quietening. Sending out loud SSBNs will make them easy pickings for Seawolf & Virginia class SSN.

The JL-2 is based off the DF-31, and like the DF-31 the newer variants of the JL-2 have longer ranges than the base versions, up to 12,000 km.

Well 12,000 km (if that is indeed an accurate range) is right at 7,450 miles.

At that range, offshore from Shanghai (on the far east coast of China), the distance to Raleigh NC, or any place south and east of there (Georgia, Florida) would be out of range. Any place to the East and South of Austin TX (including Houston, New Orleans, etc.) would also be out of range.
