I would say it's fair estimate.
"China's PLA Navy recently released footage of a joint drill between its submarine fleet and a surface combatant unit. The participating submarine unit set four records during the mission which includes the largest span of navigation longitude and the farthest area reached by Chinese submarines."
Then how do you explain that Trident 1, weight 32 tons can fly 7500 KM and deliver 8 MIRV, while the 42 tons JL-2 can not fly 11,000 KM and deliver 3 MIRV ?
JL-2, at 42 tons can only deliver 3 MIRV to a range of 7400 KM ?
Also the Bulava, at just 37 tons can deliver 6 MIRV to a range of 9000 KM !!

A few different factors could be in play:
1. Propellant difference (more vs less energetic propellant)
2. Missile construction and material (heavier material & selected design solution -> lower range/throw weight)
3. Size and weight of individual MIRV (larger & heavier MIRV -> less MIRV/missile)
4. The given throw weight/range comparison is flawed (minimal payload range for missile A vs full payload range for missile B)
5. Unreliable throw weight/range data (do we really know JL-2 REAL range?)
Specifically for No. 4, I suspect the given Trident 1 range is for minimal payload, while JL-2 is for max payload. We just can't compare the two together.
