I thought 093B is currently being produced with 095 coming next from 2025 to later this decade

Americans list original two 093 and four as 093A. It seems that what internet calls 095 is the 093B for Pentagon, unless PLAN is getting two different class of subs at same time (095 & 093B), but I dont see that happening.

They already begun building something in that new assembly hall.

The 09IIIB and the 09V are different types. Chances are the 09IIIB is currently in mass production.

We know they have built huge construction facilities. They used to have, I think, like one production line and now they have two huge new buildings. They probably increased their possible production capacity like sevenfold. So they must be building something.

For me 093B implies continuous improvement based on the 093 hull akin to progress from 052C to 052D. While a new designation 095 to me implies a completely new cleansheet design akin to 055 that will serve as basis for future improvement.But i guess china watching is a lesson on patience, so we wait and all shall be revealed.

China ZH wiki lists 9 submarines in active service.

They listed the pennant numbers, ship names, which base they are deployed, and year they began service. That's impressive.

It seems there are three, not two, of the 093, and six, not four, of the 093A. About four of the subs are in the South China Seas, including three of the original ones.

A 10th submarine is about to be launched and is described as a 093B.

HI Sutton, the submarine expert who works for Naval News (not sure if he is still a staff member), believed these images to be the pre-assembled parts of the new Type 95 Sui class SSN. The article below is dated from February.

This is the analysis Sutton offered to support this conclusion:

"The hull section is approximately 30-32 meters long and roughly 11-12 meters across. This points to the new Type-095 and Type-096 boats. The other possibility is an improved version of the current Type-093 Shang-class. This would logically be the Type-093B cruise-missile optimized version. This is expected to feature vertical launch tubes similar to the Russian Yasen class. These will allow it to carry more YJ-18 cruise missiles.

However the approximate measurements are making the completely new classes a safer bet at this stage.

These new classes will be more advanced than the Type-093, with increased levels of stealth. The Type-095 in particular may become very relevant if the PLAN increases its prescience in the Indian Ocean."

Trying to definitively confirm the precise number of nuclear submarine hulls is nigh impossible.

Not trying to put a damper on the discussion, but I think at best what we can say with a straight face is to give a range in terms of the number of hulls that may exist.


That said, we do have good reason to believe that assembly of at least one submarine has been underway in the new large assembly hall since 2020. But beyond that, trying to guess how many they may have now, and trying to guess how many nuclear submarines they have in total, or by class/type, is very difficult if not impossible.
