Apparently WZ-2 as in 无直, "unmanned heli", not 无侦 (unmanned recon)

.. This is gonna be confusing. At least we don't have WZ - 武直 (attack heli)

Going forward, perhaps the designation referencing of certain PLA equipment and platforms can be done in spelt-out Pinyin (i.e. WuZhi-2 in this case) instead of just plain WZ-2 to avoid confusion?

To be fair, we already had some Western PLA watchers who mistakenly identified the JingLei-1 (JL-1) ALBM with the JuLang-1 (JL-1) SLBM during the 9-3 Military Parade last year.

But then, well:

So the designation WZ-2 is official?
AFAIK, yes

I'm pretty curious what will be the designation of the UADFs and loyal wingmans. Would it be WJ (Wu Jian) for unmanned fighter for UADFs and something new entirely for loyal wingmans?

武直is an informal designation for Chinese helo by military fans only. Official designation is always 直 irrespective of the role of the helo.
I think PLA designation is always "Aircraft Type-number designation-upgrade/added/modified functions". So attack helicopter would just be Z10 or Z21 while armed transport chopper would have added letter W, like Z9W.

I agree that 武直 or WZ as in WZ-9 used by many members many years ago is definitely a wrong designation.
