This article on Sina made the claim based on a Feb. 2016 Jane's report (which of course is paywalled), citing a rumor from "knowledgeable individual(s)".

How did I find out about this? LOL it's the no. 1 reference cited in the Chinese Wikipedia entry of Type 071.

I already replied to your question once. The earliest (known) claim of this decision was reported by Jane's in Feb. 2016, without citing any specific source. The link is no longer available but it has been widely referenced by Chinese media and other English sources, for example:

All four ships have been built at the Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai, with informed sources anticipating that a total of eight ships may be built, although at present there is no evidence of further construction in progress.

As it seems for now no one can be sure when exactly that decision was made. Earlier than Feb. 2016, sure, but earlier by how much? It's anybody's guess.

No you're mistaken. I didn't mean to show or have any attitude. I was simply stating a fact and I thought it was because I forgot to attach the link I described earlier so that you ignored my previous comment (which I can't edit after a while too), hence I made another one.

We're currently in the late 2010s and between 2015 and now they built them at a decent speed.
Rather there was a period between the first 071 being launched and a period between the third and fourth ships where there was more of a pause.

As for the reason for the pause in construction, it is probably on the Navy's side of things. Learning to use the new ship type in the first pause, and perhaps evolving requirements for the no. of LPDs needed over time.

I doubt it would've been for any limitations in the shipbuilding process if that's what you're thinking.

Remember China never used LPD before

More like 4 units in 4 years or maybe even 5 if they get another one launched in 2019

Also 2nd and 3rd in 2010 and 2011

That’s overall 1 per year
