Yeah I think thats an older image, as was pointed out to me on Twitter as well. The draped guns and equipment are a bit of a red flag, seeing how in the other most recent image the fourth Type 075 didnt have them covered and I dont see why they'd put that stuff back on for a trial.

I remember when Americans used to claim America class and Wasp class were aircraft carriers (to show how dominant they were that they had more carriers than the rest of the world)

Don't really see that nowadays

A procurement announcement that possibly hints at two more 075s to be built by Hudong. Specifically, Hudong is asking for two elevators, two sets of diesel engines, and two sets of diesel generators.

There is somthing that not quite match type 075's design. Firstly the word 艏=船头,meaning bow, i.e. the front part of a ship. The lift of type 075 is at the aft or stern, which in Chinese would be 船尾, 艉 or 船艉.

Also 2 ships yards are involved in this contract tender, Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai and Zhongchuan Huangpu shipyard in Guangzhou.

That means 6x 075 LHDs upon their completion (and, judging by the handover date of the above listed components, i.e. April - May 2025), which should be no later than 2027, assuming that the construction processes of both LHDs are conducted simultaneously across Hudong-Zhonghua and Huangpu-Wenchong shipyards.

Speaking of which - Quite some while ago, pop3 did mention that there will be 8x 075 LHDs to be built in total, alongside 2x 076 LHDs to be built (likely) for the 1st batch.

In addition, new unconfirmed claims indicate 3x 075 LHDs will be built for the 2nd batch, including the 4th unit which has just conducted her 1st sea trial.

Hence, if this update is true, then it does look like things are going according to plan.

The 075 LHD does have one deck elevator located forward of the island superstructure, albeit not deck-edge and certainly not located right at the bow. Could these be the ones being actually referred to in the tender announcement instead?

Also 2 ships yards are involved in this contract tender, Hudong Zhonghua shipyard in Shanghai and Zhongchuan Huangpu shipyard in Guangzhou.

This does come as a surprise indeed.

However, given that Huangpu-Wenchong does construct large-sized container feeder ships (>3000 TEU), bulk carriers and gas carriers - Provided all the necessary upgrades and recalibration have been done onto the shipyard's facilities and workforce, building 30000-ton class LHDs is very much possible.

In the meantime, this is definitely a sound risk-mitigating strategy, in case Hudong-Zhonghua is rendered inoperable due to certain reasons (wartime damage, natural disaster etc).

But then, if this tender document isn't for two 075s, what could the two ships be?

Nice, this could confirm the theories that there will be at least one more 075 while 076 is being tested.

After this I think there will be a batch of 076’s, maybe 3 more to complete the first batch of 4, before the final 075s are built, I’m sticking to my prediction of 8 075s in total.
You need at least three ships to always have one in use
- a ship in action
- a ship for supplies in the harbor
- a ship on the approach or departure

Four ships are better:
- a ship approaching
- a ship in action
- a ship on the move back
- a ship for supplies in the harbor

For two ships in constant use, the fleet must be doubled.

That is actually an US Navy doctrine because they deploy their ships at far away regions that need long travel time from base to reach their patrol station, 3 ships is the minimum number they need to ensure there is always 1 ship doing patrolling.

China's navy defense is regional, the operational areas would be relatively near to their bases. They can have all ships in action as in MH370 search operation where they deployed all 3 type 071 in South Indian Ocean at the same time. The total number of type 071 in service then was three.

Patrol stations for PLAN are mainly located in Yellow Sea, East China Sea, South China Sea and they also have convoy escorts at Gulf of Aden.

The convoy escort mission in Gulf of Aden, due to its distance from China, does require the format of 1 ship (flotilla) on station, 1 ship (flotilla) on the way and 1 ship (flotilla) in base.
