re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft
Ahem, now...
Because the ROC forces have had decades to learn from Rommel's mistakes and turn those landing zones into killing zones of PLA forces.
I don't wanna be picky, but wouldn't the PLA have had decades to learn from Allied successes?
Meanwhile they can continually call in reinforcements while the PLA who would be only able to land a division at most would be starved of reinforcements.
Any sea based invasion would be coupled with the massed use of ballistic and cruise missiles as well as air strikes on both command/control centres and military bases, not to mention likely choke points which will delay reinforcements. I don't want to get too hypothetical, but the PLA won't just land an 071's worth of troops and armour onto the beach and say "k thx bye".
If the ROCN or ROCAF can destroy landing ships moving continuously through the strait then yes the PLA would be in trouble, but I don't think they will let that happen in the first place. The real threat will be from attack helicopters and beach defenses, but if most of them can be identified before an invasion by helicopters or UAVs then the necessary munitions can be thrown in that direction.
The PLA will have to get assault and attack helicopters past enemy lines while also having fire support from PLAN vessels... A system like AGS, and a lot of DH-10s would be very useful here.
So in relation to the present time, what's happened since then, to make those type of views redundant?
I don't exactly understand this question, sorry.
