re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft

pictures of HuDong shipyard, don't really look like anything to me, but it was posted by a very credible source, so I'd guess it could be a large amphibious ship.

Its time PLAN build more LPD or LHD. Clearly one is not enough for a big country like China..

if i was PLAN fleet command i would work on Logistics, LHD/LPD's and SSK/SSN's for the time being, then after i have a good modern fleet i would work on surface combatants.

alothough the Chinese have made a good descison to build cheap Multirole frigates and cheap SSK's to get experiance in modern warship construction

:china: seems Z-8 become standard model at 071 LPD (see last pic to compare the marks at helo deck)

just looking at the helopad, I feel like they can probably fit 3 helos that are smaller on there (like ka-28/Z9C). I get the sense that those landing spots can probably accommodate a helicopter even larger than Z-8. Either way, I always get the sense that 998 can be utilized so much better if they have a wider selection of naval helicopters. Oh well.

yeah, it's for transport of landing troops only; but in fact - in case of landing operation the beaching troops need a lot of airshield and ground attack capacity (study Omaha Beach in the past).
Thats why I prefer amphibous carriers including angled deck and cats, which additional could carrie light weight ground attack planes and not only helos. Those fighters like the JL-15 Falcon with various air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons would also produce a local air shield.

I think a ski jump can be added later too, when it really needs.

ski jump is a crutch; fighters can't start full loaded with this part- cats ar much better!
