IMHO, China has way too small number of LPDs. And amphibious shipping in general. For Taiwan contingency, they will need much more.
Yeah, I'm curious why they stopped at only 8 given how cheap these are (not necessarily just for TW but other contingencies too). Anyone know if there's plans for followon 071s?

I would say a Chinese Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) would look somewhat like this

this would be built around the ARG with

2-3 x Type 071 LPD ground components
1 x Type 075 LHD rotary wing
1 x Type 076 LHA air components

and support warships

it would seem like China plans 4 x ARG

they have 4 x LHD so I would add 8 x LPD or a maximum of 12

all of this is somewhat in the air as the final configuration is not known but certainly there is scope of 4 more LPD

however China might not use the "Western" standard of a ARG and may well mix and match these units

either way China does not have a heavy sea lift capacity to lift men and materials by land sea and air

Given that last one was launched 5 Years ago, and that biggest previous gap between launches was 4 years, yeah, it does appear PLAN stopped procuring those. Or is at least still considering how to proceed further.

For Taiwan contingency, 071 and larger ships arent optimal anyway. Smaller designs would be better.

Ideally something the size of 072 class or even a bit smaller, but with a floodable well deck capable of holding a few small landing craft the size of
