I'm a newbie I did not read the entire thread. I have a question about this ship. How many ships of this class does China plan to build? Thanks in advance.

Precisely this picture is proving PLAN amphibious forces reply more on their fast ZBD2000 for secureing the beach rather than American style of LCAC assault. You can see a LCAC at the back. The LCAC is likely more of a heavy transport to use once beach is secure.

Clearly, PLAN marines and USN Marine have both different way of approaching beach assault. Those who demand to see 4 LCAC from each 071 LDP during exercise clearly do not understand PLAN.

Or, it could be due to their lacking in rotary aviation - compare with USN/USMC, PLAN aviation and its marines has far fewer transport helicopters, and totally devoid of dedicated attack helicopter - thus PLAN can't emulate the USN/USMC approach: infantry deployment via AAV and transport helicopters, LCAC deploy MBT to the beachhead.

Actually, it does not make that point at all. Remember, the PLAN only has one LCAC available for use. That's one in the entire PLAN. The second is still being tested.

That's not only the more plausible explanation for why there is only one in there, it is the only explanation available. They could not put more in if they wanted...so to practice amphibious assault, they had to use the other. Plain and simple.

Let's wait until they have 6-12 LCACs and see how they configure a typical loadout on the Type 071. Then we will no more about what their go-forward thinking and policy may be.

Believe me, there would be another story of PLAN from someone if there exists a picture showing 3-4 LCAC loaded in the belly of 071 class.

Floating tins are used to land on "beach" which are usually heavily defended or mined. Choppers and LCACs with MBT/SPG can land on inland which are not prepared by defendant. Attacking unprepared areas is attacking enemy's heart and unbalancing enemy's mind. It's called "Maneuver Warfare", not only "Amphibious Warfare."

Two thousand year ago, Sun Tze told us to attack in two ways, a normal way and a surprise way (正奇). Floating tins fights the normal way and maneuver arms such as choppers and LCAC fights the surprise way. It is US Navy practicing Sun Tze 's teaching, not Chinese PLA Navy.
