Re: Type 071 LPD

You know these new pictures make me think this?

Just how far along is the 071 in it's construction? Just last month we were all guessing what it really would look like. I was not sastisfied until I saw the super structure...Then one day BOOM! It's in the water looking nearly fit for duty...damn that was fast.

What I'm thinking is the ship could be futher along that we think judging by how fast these pics have appeared. Does anyone have any clue when these latest pics where taken? If that date is know then we(I) can hazzard a guess as to when the ship will be ready for sea trails.

Re: Type 071 LPD

Can someone tell me what is the brown ship being built right beside the 071 LPD? It is a huge LNG carrier? It is normally done this way? I mean building a navy vessel and commercial ship so close toughter? Isn't there any security concern? I thought they would want to seperate commercial and military workers just to prevent leaks of construction secret.

Re: Type 071 LPD

Oops I dnt UNDERSTAND GERMAN can someone translate this !!!

Hmm since when germans are interested in China's military !!!

The German article makes a number of significant errors, particularly in regards to the weapons fot (it says 100mm main gun and AK-730,... um, whatever that is).

its only a problem of translation and writing:
two Nachbereichs Flugabwehrkanonen (AK-730?)
means two anti aircraft guns with an "near by range" (< 5.000 m)
- Kpt. Mommsen meant AK-630, the Russian-made shipboard close-in weapon system (CIWS),

so I understand it.....

I edited the post and added my translation in the text

Does "2" translate as "4" and "AK-730" as "AK-630"???? If it's only translation and writing, what is left? :coffee:

no idea, I thought they are taken relatively close to the post date. I guess maybe the assembling speed at HD really is that fast. HD-Zhonghua is the shipyard. And Zhonghua builds all the components of the ship and HD assembles them. So even though it looked like the ships were far from completing a few months back, they were a lot closer than we realized.

anyway, more pictures.

Re: Type 071 LPD

Marineforum.info gets its information from pretty much the same sources as everybody around here and elsewhere on the net. Also they are open to mistakes and misjudgements from time to time. As long as they dont back up their info, I dont really consider them facts in most cases, more something along the lines of a good guess. The CIWS designation may be a typo but its certainly not presenting them in a good (i.e. credible) light to mix up system designations. The size estimate of 17,000 ts was given on SinoDefence before, IIRC. I didnt see the low-end figure before, would like to know where they have it from (or if its their own guess).

Same goes for their figure of 8 LCAC. I am only familiar with the picture of the model showing 4 LCAC inside the hull. Did I miss something here?!

PS: Hello everybody. First post, regular reader though. ;)

Re: Type 071 LPD

We shouldn't slam people for making best guesses. I've been fantastically wrong on many details of the 071 so far, hell I didn't believe it was even an LPD until I saw the door. But AK-730 is a classic typo.

Anyway, I don't buy the 8 LCAC claim, unless they mean really small LCACs.

Re: Type 071 LPD

Oh, I am not slamming them for that. I am a regular reader there as well and appreciate the work they put in their efforts. Its just about the difference between a fact and a guess. And information given on marineforum should be handled carefully in terms of understanding it as facts. Thats it.

Yeah, I agree about the LCAC. Wouldnt really benefit having a LPD, when you dont have a carrier for the heavy equipment. And I never encountered a picture of this LPD (or a model) with 8 LCAC visible. Thats why I was asking.
