re: PLAN Type 071 LPD & its Landing Craft

I can imagine four Z-8s on the deck with one, perhaps two taking off and landing at one time.

Can san antonions land four sea knights simultaneously? That seems ridiculously unnecessary and dangerous. Do you mean park four sea knights instead?

sorry i meant park 4 CH-46 not landing and taking off all at he same time!! but all of them have thier rotors on, they leave in very short intervals, landing and and taking off one at a time only

Franco-Russe, I have seen 2 x Z8s and 1 x Z9, do u have a pic of 2 x Z8 + 2 X Z9 cus ive never seen more than 3 helos on Type 071?

i really wonder if Type 071 LPD can take 4 x Z8s on its platform simultanously

San Antonio LPD can land 4 x CH-46 all at the same time but its a narrow squeeze, inbetween the pitching and rolling of the deck, rotar blades flexing up and down while fighting strong winds 4 CH-46 fit on the rear deck with only 12 feet between the spinning rotar blades but they do it all the time and CH-46 is twin rotor is well

no doubt American Navy helo pilots are probably the best in the world at these things but it would be a good excersies if 4 x Z8 land on Type 071 LPD, i think its do-able

Z8 can carry 25 soldiers, 4 helos in a single wave could deploy 100 soldiers on each mission, very good for rapid insertion or saving lives in a humanitarian mission
I'm going to be showing 3 of them on my

Just finishing up building the airwing this week. Sixteen J-15s, four Ka-28s, two KA-31s, three Z-9s and two Z-9s.

Why do Chinese marines wear blue camouflage? Unless they are planning to be wading ashore, in which the blue might blend in with the water, the blue is going to stick out big time on the beach, in the dunes, and in the forest or where ever they are deployed. Blue camouflage is useless and looks like some kind of paintball team trying to look cool.

Do you mean sailors? the USN wears a similar type uniform.

The USN uniform was not meant to camouflage anything.

wiki explains it best..Perhaps the Chinese had similar thoughts.

The overall blue color reflects the Navy's heritage and connection to seaborne operations. The pixelated pattern is also used to hide wear and stains, something unavoidable with the utilities and working khakis used previously. The colors were also chosen to match the most commonly used paint colors aboard ship, extending the lifetime of the uniform on long deployments where uniforms often come into contact with freshly painted surfaces. As of 2012, the uniform is authorized for wear outside of military installations.

Jeff, you must've spent a small fortune building all those models. I'm financially strap these days nbut I look forward to going back to modelling one of these days. Paints are too darn expensive!

well, they are not cheap...but model building is still far cheaper than RC or 4-wheeling, etc.

The aircraft I am building for the carrier mostly came with the model, I did buy an additional set of six J-15s for her, but they are cheap (1/350 scale) like six bucks for six of them. But they are so small, but building them (each j-15 has 18 pieces) is very time consuming, very small landing gear, painting, decals, etc. That is taking almost as long as the whole ship...27 aircraft altogether.

Jeff, have you ever thought about teaching people on how to build models online through video (like Skype for example)? I'm sure you can earn a pretty good source of income for it because you have a great artistic talent for it.:D

It seems you are right there, 2 Z-8 and 1 Z-9 seen at the same time (my recollection must have been faulty).

It seems logical that the two hangars are basically for two Z-8. If they can additionally put one Z-9 in one hangar, they could also put one in the other. Or, if the Z-9 is just on the helopad, they might as well have Z-8 there, too. So basically, I think 071 can operate with a maximum of four Z-8.

Thank you for those kind words, equation. I have never thought of that, but will consider it.

BOT, I know sooner or later Trumpeter will come out with a Type 071 1/350 scale model. When they do, you can bet I will buy and build it. Same for the US San Antonio.
