This is just amazing 2 outfitting and 3 in construction from just 1 shipyard. Yura posted it in the thread 054
45 type 56 are launched from various shipyard. Add to that 5 new construction so total 50 ish type 56

No hanger and only 4 ASMs doesn't make sense to me, and excuses why, whether for comfort or cost makes even less sense. Basis already exists to make such.

Export P18 corvette, based on Type 056, has both a hanger and with enough space for 8 missiles.

Thailand's Chinese made Pattani class OPVs are said to be the Type 056's evolutionary predecessor. While the OPVs don't have missiles, the basic hull design appears to have space for them as a provision, enough I think for 8 missiles in two quad packs. There is the hanger.

Chinese made Nigerian P18N corvettes or OPV. These don't have missiles or sonars. Note the hanger and once again, the space between the superstructure and funnel.

IMHO it is more about cost/effect analysis. 056 is meant for 037 replacement, in other words, it will be made in huge quantities. Adding the hanger and the permanent helicopter requires additional cost to make, and additional personnel to run. (just count the new helicopters!) For the tasks done by other navies using this small ship, PLAN has 054 series.

Exactly to have ship with mission profile like type 56 plus heli hangar you are talking 2500 ton ship.
Like F-22P which is almost double the tonnage of type 56
When the intended mission is to patrol the EEZ of China while at the same time can defend itself within reason

Besides, one thing we learned about PLAN is, to them, the cost of making a ship hull is cheap. The sensors and weapon systems are expensive. Personnel cost is also increasing. If PLAN really needs more larger ships they can just make more 054.

Well, PLAN already had the previous gen models, 053H2G and 053H3s, that fit your description. From there, they upsized to 054s for the config layout you are espousing. The 056s focus on replacing the 037s. In that context, they tripled in displacement.

Export market models like P18 are targeted to navies that don't have the resources or desire to field larger displacement hulls.

Aren't those just additional 037 derivatives - 037IG and 037II respectively?
