One thing bothered me for a long time. Why only 8 HQ-10? Variants with more launch tubes are only marginally larger in size and deck space. In recent NAVIDEX they put a 21-shot RAM launcher on a 2000 ton class ship with ease.
Consider this is basically her only air defense measure one would expect at least a deeper magazine.
I was thinking the same thing, and was going to post on the subject, i.e why only 8 HQ-10's. Out of all the threats, an air attack would be the most dangerous, and likely. 8 short range missiles could soon be used up, particularly if facing several attack planes, and not all your missiles are guaranteed to hit. Plus, if the ship has survived an air attack, there is always the likelihood of a follow up attack.........and it ain't much use if you've got a launcher, with no missiles left.
The 8 cell HQ-10 is also being fitted to some 053 Frigates, to replace the HQ-7, that was also an 8 cell, but did have reloads.
