Are you sure that's what they named this Type 056? Suzhou is a pretty big city, second largest in its province. I think a Type 056 is too small to be named after such a large and prosperous city, Suzhou should be the namesake of at least a Type 054A.

Type 056 Corvette No 503 is indeed named 'Suzhou'.
I have seen on the internet in the past an article on how the Chinese name their Warships, but as per usual it was noted that there were some irregular naming of vessels, per the norm, and that was due to the fact that depending which fleet the warship would be allocated to, it would in some instances lead to a name change against the conventional naming. If i ever find the article again i will post it here.

suggests the name "Ganzhou"

The 32nd 056 already? If I remember correctly the last time there was a count it was in the mid-20's no?
