Seems all random at the moment to me since the Liaoning belongs to the NSF and she got a white numbering. I believe the 056 from Wuhan got the black numbering so it's not safe to say all new ships being commissioned get the white numbering either. The only speculation that may seem to have some weight would be ships destined to be part of the CVBG are getting the white numbering system, but I think that's a big mistake to so opening identify what ships belong to a CVBG or not.

I suspect hull numbering convention will be unified in the future. It's bush league not to.

I wish there were a better picture of the ship to the left, outboard of Hai Jian 9020, in the top picture.

That must be the second Type 917A torpedo retriever (Bei Yun 530?), launched by Guijiang, Wuzhou, in July. The first of this class, Nan Yun 846, also came to Huangpu for final fitting out, in 2006. The ship is based on the Type 081 WOCHI class minesweeper hull.

So it appears they will have an access hatch in front of the main radar mast leading to the roof of the bridge? If I interpreted correctly, it does make that part look a little more aerodynamic.

If you're talking about ships at this size, aerodynamic is irrelevant because it won't result any improvement, better to shave off RCS and whatever that'd help to improve handling.

be it as it may, the 056 designs might see a few more "Blocks" throughout its production run.
