Is Xianyang the only one in the first batch to have the extra chimney thingy and gets painted black? Feel like I've never seen a black chimney extension before.A clearer image of 108, the last ship of the first batch. Image was taken from a video.

Yes, it does appear that the stack is a tad higher than her sisters and painted black like the 054As.

Type 055 really is big vessel and when someone sees it it shows China has reached a critical stage in naval dominance

What I really want to see the improvements of 055 are IEPS and railgun and in much lesser wish is 128 full length 9m UVLS
What are in your mind ?
Why rail guns? From everything I have seen so far every time a rail gun has been tried it seemed more like an expensive novelty rather than a effective weapon emplacement. It seems that laser CIWS is both more practical and achievable within the near future.

Well because what you have heard possibly from Zumwalt-class destroyer which I understood had many issues with railgun
Chinese railgun could be more successful (well, we are hopeful here)
btw Railgun has many advantages
1. Higher velocity and longer range and better accuracy
2. No cartridge is required, it means reduced the size of the projectiles .. it can carry much more and cheaper
3. No explosive charge, it means safer and cheaper
etc
Yeah, but you also get all the disadvantages, like increased power requirements, new electrics, and the general unreliability of railguns to fire accurately due to significantly increased "barrel" wear due to how modern high-power railguns work.
