I believe we may have been bamboozled.
No idea about 054B, but 054A and 052D classes could well be built for export for many years.
Actually even the 055 could be exported if there is a next generation being built.
Having said that, China consistently says they are not in an arms race and won’t join one, and I am always tempted to believe them. this is one of the reasons I am convinced there will only be one 003 for example.
So, it is possible that next generation ship is just a natural progression due to their rapid development, and not because “things are heating up”, I never buy that argument.
I think we should just wait, basically still rumours that could turn out to be true (or false).
I wouldn't be that incredibly surprised if they actually have some plans for ships even bigger than the 055, but would still be kind of surprised if they were already starting to get build nowish.
On the other hand, I always thought this next batch of 055s would be different than the first at the very least (055A, could potentially be slightly lengthened/bigger than 055s as well).

I think we should look at the root of this "CGX" rumour.
From the original poster:-
1. There is no mention of "CGX" in the original post, rather it was 改进型055 which means upgraded variant of type 055.
2. Orginal poster also wrote that second batch of "current variant of type 055 (i.e. same spec as first batch of 8) is suspected will be postponed temporarily. And this postponment is due to building of a more powerful new ship. IMO a more powerful new ship need not be a totally new design but an upgraded type 055 with significant modifications, with features claimed to be better than flight 3 of AB DDGs.
I also expect the extend of upgrade for new variant of type 055 wil be similar to changes from type 054 to type 054A.

Yea that seems more likely.
So the question might be if the 2nd batch was supposed to be 055s with 'minor modifications' (say not deserving of the 055A designation), but now they have decided to do more upgrades and make it a 055A (or push the 055A schedule forward).
Or it could be possible they actually went for 055As, but are now stopping and adding upgrades that they might have planned for a say '055B'.
All in all, I think they rumours might end up being true in the sense, that adjustments might have come to the plans due to tech maturing faster than they expected.
