However 055 ends up looking, I must say I can seemingly tick the "integrated smoke/superstructure" off my wish list, going off even the mock up at this early stage. Now just for 128 VLS, integrated mast, APARs of different bands, multiple ciws, twin hangars, practical stealth, and a 12k-13.5k displacement...

I think it shows individuality. You would think there would be no feuds and everyone would get along nicely if - as some claimed - Chinese internet is tightly controlled and those forums are sponsored/backed by the government.

Still, why the watermarks, why~?

not so much individuality than greed and lack of respect for others' work. each site wants to attract more followers, so instead of citing the source of the photos and giving credit where credit is due, these sites simply wish to act like they came up with the stuff. for those of us that grew up in the internet age, this is reminiscent of the hubhub way back when ebaumsworld was accused of appropriating user generated content by stamping images with their own watermark.

the critical western observer will most probably relate this to china's longstanding issues with intellectual property protection. it sucks because the negative effects of the sites' lack of mutual respect is externalized to those of us that just want to see some pictures of chinese military developments!

I haven't had so much fun speculating about what a product would look like since the time before J-20s unveiling.

With J-20 (J-XX back then), we knew a few fundamentals, canard/delta configuration, stealthy, large size -- but not much else, and the creative fellows on the Chinese boards were always putting out some nice pictures or CGs.

We have a similar deal with 055 -- we have a deckhouse/smoke stack superstructure to work off, with a possible series of dimensions and subsystems that we can expect, and now everyone is producing work that all feature the common prerequisites but differ in varying but logical ways. It's quite good fun, and I for one am gonna enjoy the ride as it lasts

that last one assumes a lot of additons to the mockup, some of which don't make much sense, as they'd more easely be constructed that way from the start, instead of getting to this point then adding more structure. Plus this last drawing assumes the deletion of ledges.



The drawing above also assumes quite a bit, especially with radar structures and weapons, plus it assumes the ledge over current top deck roof is start of anoter deck. I guess the truth may be somewhere in between. any of these would really be a decent leap for PLAN.

Oh I wouldn't be so sure about that -- J-XX/J-20 was fairly unique in that a few people clearly had a good idea about what it was going to look like and some people must have taken the descriptions and ran with it.

And I think it is also far easier to draw a plane to make it look like the real thing than for a ship, which has far more details.

I think most of the drawings aren't considering the ledges very seriously. At the moment I'm not even sure what they are, either roof or floor for the bridge wings or part of the mast.


But what additions do you speak of that could be more easily constructed from the start? It seems to derive itself from what we solidly can see from the mock up superstructure right now without too much artistic license.

If I remember the leaks correctly, they were done by actual insiders. At least one or two of the renders were absolutely exact. I suppose we don't get the same kind of insiders for ships as we do for planes though, so it might be expecting too much for the same thing to happen here.
