The Chinese don't seem to call it as such. The TLAS-1 we saw advertised on a poster stands for Towed Line Array Sonar, but when you see the design, its all divided into segments, which is indicative of a variable depth sonar, since each segment represents a transducer and a hydrophone, each segment applicable to the corresponding depth of the line.

A towed array would have some floatation device at the end of the line. The transducer and the hydrophone would be attached to the floatation device.

except for some what of lack of power and the uncertainty of Datalink, 054A seems to be a very capable platform.

they said about 525 has very good ASW capability, has hull mounted sonar, Towed sonar, ASW helicopter, ASW rockets, torpedoes and Rocket assisted torpedoes

That since to suggest that the last part isn't VLed, which means its shot off from the AshM canisters.

yeah, must be. It would be nice to see some further evidence to support it. At least for the TAS part, we've seen the holes at the back.

I'm inclined to translate "火箭助推鱼雷" as rocket assisted torpedo. Since the VL-SAM is too small for such a weapon, it'd make sense that it's shot from the anti-ship missile TLC.

It's also possible that it's pointing to rocket powered ASW mortars?

火箭助推鱼雷=Rocket-propelled torpedo

I think not. Basically it should be an ASROC, which is a torpedo with rocket booster stage fired into the air. Booster expends, then drops away, leaving the torpedo to drop into the water. Different principle from the Shkval which is a rocket fired underwater, and speeds completely throughout its journey as a rocket. The Yu-7 would have given the PLAN the perfect basis for a new rocket assisted torpedo.
