It's not very useful to look at it like that. The ship has to move as well. When we add the other 60%, the fuel tanks (1500t-1600t) would be empty in just under 21 days under way. Now, add the requirement that your ships need to always be at least 75% topped up, and you need to refuel every five days.

For the Burkes yes. But Chinese warships only need to sail 1-2 days from Chinese ports to reach their operating areas. Then they have 2-3 weeks for operations

Remember that the original Type 54 Frigate was modeled on the French Lafayette.

But the subsequent Type-54A design cut down fuel storage significantly because the Chinese Navy didn't need the same operating range.

They did? I don't know if they ever did, and during all these years, the Chinese Navy operated the Type 054A to the full extent of their range. Like operating them in the South Atlantic, in one of the detours from the Gulf of Aden escort missions. One exercised in South Africa early last December. Detours include a port visit to London to St. Petersburg to attend Russian Naval celebrations.

That's my understanding.
The Lafayettes are literally designed to sail and operate halfway across the world, all the way from France to the Pacific/Indian Ocean etc

In comparison, the Type-054A was designed for high-intensity tasks in the Western Pacific, near to Chinese ports.
That is the top priority.

If you're talking about the long-distance missions that the Type-054A has previously conducted, remember the Type-054A were still accompanied by a replenishment ship.

And if you think about it, it's literally only a few Frigates making distant port visits in peacetime.
In peacetime, friendly port visits and refuelling are not an issue.

So it's worth optimising the Type-054A design for tasks closer to Chinese waters.

If you are using the range figures on their wiki pages or the Naval Technology pages, the Lafayette and the Type 054A has similar ranges, 9000 nm vs. 8000 nm, despite the Type 054A being the heavier ship. The Lafayette accomplishes the 9000 nm by traveling only at 12 knots. You can travel a longer distance by traveling slowly, or you can travel a shorter distance at a higher speed with the aid of replenishment.

Frigate 571 is a veteran and no stranger to Gulf of Aden missions. Gulf of Aden missions tend to alternate going ESF, NSF, then SSF and back again. SSF turn this time.

Nice catch. Assuming the bigger ship yeah.

For size comparison, the smaller ship in the dock should be another Type 056A. The ship on the river on the bottom should be a Type 056A and the ship on the river on top should be a Type 053H something in stripped down condition.
