PLA has two programs, one is the klub missile they brought which has a torpedo carrying variant that can be launched in anything that carry a klub. which is basically a ashm carrying a torpedo warhead.

and another which is similar to asroc.

Klub?? Barely any PLAN vessels can fire klub in the first place, why would they develop a weapon like so?

And I remember tphuang posting something about HQ-16 having ABM capability too, I thought it might've been mistaken translation or something. Nice to see this confirmation too. I think these confirmations should lead us to re assess how capable a ship 054A's really are. The presence of an astoc type weapon should increase its ASW capability (in conjunction with its existing sonar suite)

I think it shall be the last few sentenced that mention ABM.

If its truth, HQ-16 shall have range at least more than 70km and very high speed like at least Mach 4 and above...

I think an 054B shall be build with Additional of more HQ-16 (total 60)packed into the larger frigate Of 5800 tons.

Probably the export version has only anti- air features...

Just in case that one isn't clear enough here's one I took onsite, better quality.

It says nothing about ABM, just against incoming AShM, aircraft and submarines....IIRC, I asked an officer onboard that day and he told me the ASROC (?) have a range up to 50km...I know I got the numbers right but not that certain which one he refers to.

Well we knew HQ-16 had a range of ~50 km, maybe he thought you were asking about that instead of the ASROC?
Although a 50km range for an asroc type weapon wouldn't be mind blowing -- existing variants have up to thirtish kms i believe.

An ASW missile that can reach out to the first convergence zone is a great asset indeed. Even the VLA does not seem to have that kind of range.
