If I would see that thing alone, taken off context, I would say it's a freight container. They often have waveish pattern in the exterior walls which from this distance may easily look like it's a rack of cylinders tied together like a VLS...

But I agree with Tphuang, it looks too big. It's not the wide but the lenght of it as in 054A the VLS is in lognitual position towards the bow. That thing looks too lenghty to be able to be fitted for the bow of 054A and this new ship doesen't appear to have anyway longer bow than the earlier two 054As. But I learned from that last time we speculated on hazy pics of possiple VLS for this shipclass to not make any statements..;)....As far as I'm concerned it may well be a container or VLS rack...who knows...

Examining it closely and I got a container in the view of my window right now, containers have a wavy pattern but this pattern does not show roundish, tube like pattern. And whatever that pattern is, it won't look like 8 tubes stacked together. It also won't have the cavity underneath, which is the blast area.

Its possible that the supports is holding the VLS in a manner that is like the two VLS systems are end to end, with each system being 2 x 8. When installed, the surrounding supports maybe removed and the two VLS systems are settled on the proper position so they would appear as 4 rows of 8.

Come to think of it those things might be a part of the ship they're building next rather than the current ship within. That means the 054A is about to launch soon, or move out of the hanger, and they're already preparing the hanger for the next ship in line.

But would a new destroyer be built in HP?

It's also remarkable that they are willing to go public with an inside view of the HHQ-16. Are the dimensions different from what we expected? Does this give an insight into its range?

And how long did it take to build this Type 054A?

That depends. HP is capable of building a destroyer but would is another matter.

What you mean HHQ-16 do you mean the SR-400 MLRS? Even though that was displayed, the range wasn't. But the way the video looked to me---the MLRS is destroying an air base---suggests a long range system. I suspect this MLRS is another way for the manufacturer trying to capitalize on the HHQ-16 development.

Isn't the HHQ-16 the VLS system in the Type 054A? I mean that rather than the new MLRS shown at the recent Zhuhai airshow.

I do not think there are great differences between former 054A and the newer.may be it is an intermediary to go to 054B

Yeah the sensor fit and rear deck look 054A. Only the chinned bow guards are different I think. 054A2? lol.

it should be noted that the front of the boat is quite pretty.
the lines are perfect.it should have stealth

in terms of radar stealth, it's about the same as the other 054 series, which are in line with world standards currently. Certainly not fully stealthy but better than pre-1990s classes.
