IMHO the steel price and protections measures adopted by US Government will impact in final price of the nexts DDGs. 3.800 million dolars for a pair of DDGs it is really high. For sure being lighter in the case of Type 052D/E helps (only 64 VLS cells), and probably contracting them in more quantity helps to contain final price.

Chinese shipyards only make measly profit from warships. They are more after the prestige, the warship is more of an advertisement for them. They make enough profit from making commercial ships, at least for CSSC shipyards.
US shipyards used by US defense industry no longer make commercial ships. The international shipbuilding market for the US is at this point, practically non existent, and the only commercial ships are made to satisfy the Jones Act. For this reason, they have to put enough profit margins on the warships to be able to finance the continued existence of the shipyard. The Chinese shipyard has no need for such. The US continues to dole out warship contracts as a subsidy to keep these shipyards alive.
As for the AESA costs, the Chinese AESAs are capable of dealing with supersonic, tactical ballistic and even antisatellite (according to CCTV-7 videos), so they are also high performance. The reasons why they are cheaper is because they have been mass producing them much longer --- since the first Type 052C --- and has made many many destroyers ever since. The US has only begun to make theirs, so they face higher initial costs.
How many will they end up build?!
Back in 2014 I was saying China would end up having 60 AESA equipped destroyers in 30 years time. But that looks like underestimated, both the number and speed of construction.
this is counterfactual because the 055 and 052D both have AESA radars while AB outside of very limited Flight III ships are all PESA. Your facts are incorrect - there has been no such focus. Thus the conclusion is also wrong.

Also China can produce AESA much more efficiently and the productivity is much much higher than the US
Imagine ASUS AMD mobo mid end product is cost roughly $200-$300 and made in China, super super high quality and features. How much do you think if it was produced in the US ... minimum would be $1K and likely would have lower quality than Chinese with only $200 price

I am blown away by the way he took this pic. I don't think the captain will let anyone stand on the fore deck when the VLS is launching a missile. He must have put his camera on a tripod with a wide angle lens, at least 20mm or below, stood on the bridge and remotely activated the camera which began rapidly shooting on a very fast shutter speed.
